The FIBA Women’s World Cup formed a truce between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese fans after seeing the duo’s chemistry unfold throughout the tournament. So much so that some fans are clamoring for Clark and Reese to be on the same team in the WNBA as well, and analyst Rachel DeMita recently addressed this scenario.

On the latest episode of the Courtside Club podcast, DeMita was asked a what-if scenario by a fan. The question was whether it would be a good idea for the Indiana Fever to trade 2024 No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston for Angel Reese. And while DeMita was excited about this scenario, she believes it will not be a reality in the near future.
“I don’t think that this is going to happen anytime soon. Caitlin and Angel actually playing on the same team, like maybe later on in their career. And maybe that’s something that we have to look forward to.”
“Whether you’re a huge fan of Angel or a huge fan of Caitlin or you hate the other, you have to admit. There was really something special that they had on the court. Their chemistry was so good. Their court awareness of one another… It’s like they somehow — and maybe it’s because they’ve studied each other’s game. They knew where each other was.”
DeMita said via Courtside Club after watching Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s dream partnership in full flow during the World Cup, thanks in large part to their profiles matching so well. In fact, out of Clark’s 32 assists across six games, 7 were for Reese, further cementing how well the two gel. And DeMita believes their long-running rivalry could be a factor in why Clark and Reese know each other so well.
However, this does not mean Clark’s partnership with Fever teammate Aliyah Boston is any less in quality. Clark and Boston are masters of the pick-and-roll, and Clark drawing heavy perimeter defense regularly opens up space for Boston to attack the paint. The duo also became the first pair of teammates in WNBA history to each record a 30-point double-double in the same game.
Regardless, both Clark and Reese have shown their appreciation for playing with each other during this World Cup. The duo was even seen sitting next to each other throughout the final round, laughing and bonding.
“We can kind of rely on each other, lean on each other,” Reese said. “This is our first big national event, so being able to play with each other, learn each other, and go through this learning process together, it’s fun.”
Following Team USA’s World Cup gold medal victory against France, Caitlin Clark even went as far as to say that she and Reese have always been friends, despite their rivalry going back to college, when Reese’s LSU beat Clark’s Iowa in the NCAA championship three years ago.
“We’ve always been friends. Don’t do that,” Clark told a reporter who asked if they were “friends now” on Sunday.
Another reason why Clark may not have liked the question is that all the young stars of the USA had left thier WNBA rivalries behind for the World Cup. In fact, Paige Bueckers even directly addressed the issue while speaking exclusively to FIBA ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“Right now we’re on the same team, we’re wearing the same jersey.”
While it remains to be seen if Clark and Reese will ever be on the same team in the WNBA, their fans can still enjoy the duo’s chemistry whenever Team USA takes on the hardwood.
For now, both Clark and Reese will be locked in for the upcoming WNBA playoffs, considering how the Fever star missed last season’s playoffs due to injury, while it’s Reese’s playoff debut. There might also come a time when we see Clark and Reese go against each other in the playoffs, so rest assured, the WNBA’s current viewership records are not safe.
