Becky Hammon was dialed in as the Washington Mystics closed the gap with the Las Vegas Aces during the second period. While the defending champions were the clear favorites on paper, the 14-12 Mystics proved to be more than a match. A clip from Bleacher Report showed the exact moment when the Mystics took the lead and Hammon, while arguing her case with an official, took a tumble, and fans quickly took notice.

The clip captured the moment when the Aces had a slim 45-44 lead when Mystics forward Kiki Irafen found her way inside the paint and made a 1-foot hook shot, momentarily taking the lead. That’s when the Aces coach, while trying to argue her case, slipped and fell to the floor, before quickly recovering and seemingly continuing to plead her case.
The entire game was super competitive, with both teams exchanging the lead multiple times until the final quarter, with the Mystics winning it 100-99. A’ja Wilson’s was crucial for the Aces and finished the night with a staggering 38 points, shooting 12 of 16 from the field and converting 12 of her 13 free throws. However, that sole miss would turn costly for the Aces.
Meanwhile, Shakira Austin scored 25 points on the night, converting a 3-point play after an offensive rebound with just 12.8 seconds left, which was the result of Wilson’s free throw miss. This gave the Mystics, the team with the second-worst offensive rating at just 100.1, an unlikely victory over the Aces.
Sonia Citron also contributed 20 points, of which four were in the last minute. Lauren Betts had 13 points off the bench as the win took the Mystics to 8th place in the standings, within reach of mounting a late playoff run.
However, fans weren’t interested in comparing perfromances on B/R’s clip of Hammon taking a tumble.
“Omg… she got swept away🧹😩🤣🤣🤣,” one fan reacted. Meanwhile, another could relate to Hammon being on edge during the highly competitive match.
“Oh, that would’ve made me even madder than I already was! I would’ve got a tech,” said the fan. Antoher fan also noticed that despite the fall, Hammon was still trying to interact with another official the moment she got up.
“😂😂 and got right up still talking,” commented the fan.
The clip also showed how the bench and front row fans couldn’t help but react in surprise. One of the Aces’ staff even sprang to his feet hoping to assist Hammon, but she didn’t stay down.
“The Bench: Bwaaaaaa-😂😂😂😂!!!,” one fan said.
“Think this is a submission for Becky’s nomination in the most likely to hit a ref category,” another fan joked.
It’s not hard to see why one would make that comment, since Hammon almost took down the referee with her, who moved away at the last moment.
However, instead of spamming laughing emojis or joking, some noticed the intensity of a coach who has led the Aces to 3 WNBA Championships.
“Reason number 192939482817171 why she has so many rings in such a short time: She’s so intense; she feels the game like no other Coach actually,” one fan commented.
