Women’s basketball is enjoying a growth phase like no other: Both in numbers and in geography. Many fans, perhaps for the first time, have the chance to see live women’s basketball games in their hometowns, as ‘Unrivaled’ plans to take its Season 3 games to multiple cities. After the league announced this development on Tuesday, September 1, fans wasted no time in offering suggestions and signing up their respective cities.

Unrivaled has enjoyed unprecedented success in its short existence. After recently completing its Series C funding, which saw an overwhelming response as the league oversubscribed its $100 million target, Unrivaled has now set its sights on expanding its games to major cities across the US.

The catch? They haven’t yet revealed the cities, generating buzz among the fans and media alike. Front Office Sports reporter Colin Salao shared a glimpse of the press release in an X post, revealing that the bus will make eight stops, per a source.

“We saw firsthand the incredible response from fans in Philadelphia and New York last season, and it made clear that there is an appetite for Unrivaled games in communities across the country,” said Micky Lawyer, Unrivaled Commissioner. “With Ally continuing alongside us as our founding partner, we’re excited to get back on the road, connect our players with even more fans, and bring the Unrivaled experience to more communities in season three.”

Last season, Unrivaled expanded beyond its Miami home base for the first time, playing a game in Philadelphia that set a women’s basketball attendance record, with 21,490 fans at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The league’s semifinal playoff games were also sold out at a different venue, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Unrivaled CEO Alex Bazzell had hailed Unrivaled’s promising growth and shared his outlook on its expansion in a media statement last week.

“I’m a big believer in staying ahead of the curve, staying aggressive, and nothing is off the table,” Bazzell told ESPN. “Whether that’s format, cities, where we go next, or who we sign. We want to make sure we are making sound, long-term decisions.”

His statement stemmed directly from an overwhelmingly positive fan sentiment. And after the bus tour was announced on X, fans reacted in numbers, inviting the league to their cities.

Season three of Unrivaled will feature 48 players, with major offseason additions like Gabby Williams, Olivia Miles, and Flau’jae Johnson signing on for multi-year deals. These standout athletes will join returning stars Aliyah Boston and Paige Bueckers as the highly anticipated touring schedule officially kicks off in the WNBA offseason.

With such high-profile players all on one bus, it would be a major miss for fans to miss out on the event if Unrivaled visited their city. So, in response to Unrivaled’s X post, which prompted fans to mention cities that the league should visit, one fan wrote:

“I hope y’all can make it to Houston.”

“H-Town! #HoustonComets,” added another fan.

Clearly, Houston fans want women’s basketball games back in the city that won the first WNBA championship but eventually saw the Comets altogether exit the league in 2008. They might not have to wait long, as the Houston Comets are officially returning to the WNBA in 2027 after Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta purchased and relocated the Connecticut Sun franchise.

“Won’t happen, but Rochester, NY… I need me some good basketball in my hometown😭,” wrote another, lamenting the fact that their home city may not be lucrative enough for Unrivaled to make its appearance there.

“Can we get a Denver, Co game? We NEED a female SPORTS event 😩‼️,” another wrote, immediately pitching in for his city as a host.

Another fan went a step ahead and highlighted the merits of visiting Rockland County, NY, writing,

“Rockland County in NY — convenient to/from NYC, NJ, and CT! The Palisades Center Mall is HUGE and could use some life (and business).🩵💜”

“Knoxville!!!! You gotta make a stop in the heart of women’s basketball! Double bonus the Hall of Fame makes an excellent walk down memory lane for some of the players and coaches,” wrote another.

Whichever city Unrivaled visits, its fairy-tale story is set for another chapter, bigger than ever.
