After the one-point victory against a depleted Indiana Fever roster snapped a brutal five-game skid, the victory was only short-lived. While Paige Bueckers made every attempt to save the roster from falling in the next game against the LA Sparks, elimination seeped through the locker room’s cracks. And the Dallas Wings found their way to the bottom of the pile, spiralling in misery with a four-game losing streak. But just when the roster couldn’t spiral anymore, adversity struck the locker room again.
In the recent wake of events, rookie JJ Quinerly became the latest player to be ruled out of the season after a brutal injury scare on August 20. She will join Tyasha Harris, Li Yueru, Arike Ogunbowale, and Aziah James on the sidelines. While still in a rebuilding phase this season, knee injuries have inflicted Paige Bueckers & Co. to a great degree.
The official Dallas Wings account took to social media. Breaking the news on Instagram, the account shared a poster of JJ with a caption that read, “Dallas Wings guard JJ Quinerly will miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain in her left knee. Quinerly sustained the injury in the Los Angeles Sparks game on Aug. 20. Quinerly is expected to make a full recovery. Additional updates will be provided when appropriate.”

Having said that, Dallas insider Grand Afseth confirmed the news and added his two cents on the current roster update. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he shared a shocking update. “The Dallas Wings’ injury toll is staggering: by season’s end, 8 of 12 opening-night players will have missed 7+ games. Including midseason addition Li Yueru, that number rises to 9. Not one Wings player has appeared in every game this season.” While the insider shared how the complete locker room failed to compete together this season, with some or the other player riddled with injuries, the latest news surrounding Quinerly came as a huge blow to the roster and fans alike, sending them into an online frenzy.

WNBA Fans React to the Shocking Update
“JJ was one of my fav rookies. So sad, but what an incredible performance this season. Third round pick playing like a first-rounder,” a user wrote. As the 27th overall draft pick for the Dallas Wings this season, Quinerly stepped up when the team parted ways with its strong veteran presence earlier this season. She clocked in with an average of 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists so far. Quinerly shot to fame with her remarkable performances alongside Paige Bueckers.
On the other hand, some people were quick to point out the miserable locker room condition with, “Good lord, our whole team has been hurt atp.” Using the same sentiment, a user wrote in utter shock, “ANOTHER ONE??? Dude, I can’t.” With Wings captain Arike Ogunbowale followed by Li Yueru, and Aziah James sidelined, the roster’s strength has been greatly reduced. And with Quinerly too ruled out for the rest of the season, the team lacks a strong presence to support Paige Bueckers.

Praying this is a fast recovery for you,” another user wrote. Whereas a third user chimed in with, “OMG, hope you have a good recovery, JJ. Hope it heals well and quickly. Loved watching you play this rookie season. Incredible performance as usual.” With hopes to catch her hoop next season, fans poured in for the athlete, showering their love and blessings for Quinerly.
