The Wings entered 2025 in rebuild mode, placing the weight of the franchise on the shoulders of the No. 1 overall pick. And needless to say, Bueckers responded, breaking rookie records while prioritizing team over individual feats. “Paige Bueckers has already proven she’s the kind of player you build a franchise around,” Wings GM Curt Miller said earlier this season, after her historic 44-point piece. But unfortunately for Dallas, its sports teams and star players haven’t had an encouraging recent history. On the other side, there might just be oportunists lurking around.

Eight months ago, the city watched the Mavericks ship Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster deal that shook the NBA. He was the city’s best hope at a championship after the Dallas Cowboys had run dry for decades. The Slovenian star was coming off a historic year, too, having averaged the most points per game of any player, while leading the team to the finals. It landed protests across the city, only for them to go unheard. However, that wasn’t all the heartbreak for Dallas residents.

More recently, they endured the Cowboys parting ways with Micah Parsons after a messy contract deadlock. “This is a gamble The Gambler should not have taken,” Michael Irvin opined, calling the move ‘crazy and dumb’. Dallas was losing yet another young talent who had called it a ‘dream’ to be playing for the city.

As this trade came through, it sparked whispers in the WNBA as well, making one ponder if the Wings would also risk losing their very own generational star. Phil Murphy even asked, “Mina, you worried about maybe Paige Bueckers in a blockbuster, maybe getting shipped away from the Wings?” on NFL Live.

That fear reached its peak when Just Women’s Sports dropped a viral post on social media. Sharing Doncic and Parsons’ faces crossed out in red, as Bueckers stood alone in the left corner of the frame, the media house wrote, “Paige Bueckers better not be next.”

In less than a season, Bueckers has become more than just a rookie. She is a reliable anchor for the Wings, who commands double-teams, sells out arenas, and restores belief in a franchise that is still internally struggling. Her poise, flawless shots, and leadership abilities has cemented Bueckers as the face of the locker room. In coach Chris Koclanes’ words, “I’m at a loss for words because she’s just an incredible talent on and off the floor. She’s our leader, and she makes everybody around her better.”

But as the city grapples with shocking trades across sports, it has been enough to drive the people on the edge of their seats.

WNBA Fans Erupt on Social Media

After Micah Parsons parted ways with the city and the Cowboys, WNBA fans came out in support of Paige Bueckers. But instead of watching the move as a threat to the rookie, fans sent an alarming message to the Dallas Wings front office. Majority of the fans welcomed the move, if it were to happen, urging Bueckers to exit the locker room at the earliest.

Please let Paige be next. Connecticut would absolutely Love her and definitely appreciated her far more than the Dallas Wings “fans” do,” a user wrote. Regardless of Bueckers’ excitement “for the future,” Dallas x Paige hasn’t seemed like a perfect union in year 1. The cries to get the UConn alumna a better coach, have been loud after the disastrous 9-31 season, and the city’s pattern is just the leeway the fans need.

Paige is coming home to Minnesota where she will be happy,” another user chimed in. It is no secret that Bueckers grew up a fan of the Lynx. They were her hometown team after all. She even admits to have had their posters and shoes in her room. So, if the Wings ever decide to trade, Paige to Minnesota is something fans can make peace with.

She’ll be heading to Minnesota via trade or free agency in the next few years,” another echoed. Not only was Paige a fan of the team growing up, but Cheryl Reeve was one of the firsts to notice a 12-year-old Bueckers’ working on her game. And the team’s star player, Napheesa Collier? The rookie calls her “my big sister.” That would be a team to look forward to.

So another prayed, “let her be next.” Dallas not only has had an underwhelming season to shadow Bueckers’ historic rookie campaign, but the young guard hasn’t received adequate support from the team around. She has went on to drop double-digit performances all throughout the season, save for one. She also became the fastest player in the league to record 500 points and 100 assists. Despite all that effort, the Wings remain out of the playoff contention. So the fans aren’t keen on letting her talents go to waste or another yeat.

However, Curt Miller is a tough cookie. “I think Curt Miller is smarter than Nico or Jerry I don’t see him trading her,” one fan claimed. Poor season or not, the GM is just elated to have a generational talent on his team. Admittedly, he had danced around when the Wings won the No.1 lottery and woke up feeling Christmas-like on draft day. When that is the sentiment that persists around having your foundation piece, we might as well expect it to work out in the long run.
