The WNBA mid-season cuts are among us. Until the deadline for the cuts is passed, all the players on unprotected contracts will remain on edge. With all WNBA teams required to limit their roster to 12 players, some cuts are bound to happen. During this deadline, all the teams are heavily active as this is their final chance to improve the roster without trades. Just recently, the Dallas Wings signed Liatu King on a rest-of-season contract. However, just six days later, she was waived.
While this deadline can lead to disappointments for many players, it can also be an opportunity for many. For players who have been out of the league for a while or are not in their perfect fit, there is an opportunity to find a solution. Recently, the Phoenix Mercury added DeWanna Bonner to their ranks. Now, it may seem that Paige Bueckers’ squad, the Dallas Wings, may also make a move.
If the recent reports are to be believed, the Dallas Wings might be about to sign former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter. The speculation was further fueled after Chennedy Carter’s post on July 7 with a caption ‘DFW DFW DFW DFW’. Interestingly, Chennedy Carter is from the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area.

However, Dallas Wings reporter Joey Mistretta called on the fans to cool their jets. While he did acknowledge that the Wings could sign Chennedy Carter, her post does not signify anything.

I am seeing a lot of people link Chennedy Carter to the Wings following her “DFW” post and the Wings waiving Liatu King today.
I’m not saying it is 100% not going to happen, but again, Carter is from the DFW area.
Could Dallas sign Carter? It is possible, but Carter’s post…
— Joey Mistretta (@JoeyMistretta_) July 8, 2025
While Joey Mistretta might have tweeted to calm down the ever-expectant fans, it has had the opposite effect. It has only raised the fans’ expectations about pairing a dynamic scorer with their rookie superstar, Paige Bueckers.
There is a growing belief among the fanbase that adding Carter will help them throughout the second half of the season. The Dallas Wings have struggled immensely till now and sit 11th in the league with a 6-14 record. Having a backcourt of Chennedy Carter and Paige Bueckers will give them a strong one-two punch.

A Look into Chennedy Carter’s Professional Career So Far
Chennedy Carter’s arrival in the league was met with some lofty expectations. Carter concluded her college basketball career at Texas A&M as a three-time First Team All-SEC selection. She was drafted by the Atlanta Dream as the fourth overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.
Her professional career began with a bang as she became the youngest player to have a 30-point game. She kept on delivering performances in her rookie year and was also considered a heavy favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. However, as they often do, injuries played a big part and Carter had to miss six games due to an ankle injury.

Although she missed out on the Rookie of the Year title, she had done enough to earn a selection to the All-Rookie team. The following season, however, was not so bright. After appearing in 11 games for the Dream, Carter was suspended for ‘conduct detrimental to the team’.

The suspension lasted a whole season and also resulted in her being traded to the Los Angeles Sparks for the 2022 WNBA season. She played 24 games for the Sparks and provided a vital scoring punch off the bench. However, controversy kept following her as she was waived off her contract due to a reported ‘poor conduct’
After missing the 2023 WNBA season, Chennedy Carter signed with the Chicago Sky. With the Sky, Carter found her footing in the league and had her best statistical season of her career. However, even her stint with the Sky was not without controversy. It was during her tenure with the Sky that Carter had her most viral moment. Unfortunately, though, it was not for a positive reason, as she shoved Caitlin Clark away from the ball. Following this, she refused to answer any questions about the incident.
Surprisingly, the Sky did not offer her a qualifying offer, which made her a free agent. Chennedy Carter did not sign with any WNBA team but chose to play overseas. She joined the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association and has been dominating the league. While she may not be in the league right now, she is certainly performing at an elite level

Whether the Dallas Wings sign her or not, that is to be seen. Right now, the only thing that is certain is that there are going to be a lot of movements until the mid-season deadline.
