In the Indiana Fever’s bid to down the LA Sparks at their home, it was yet again a Caitlin Clark moment that came to prominence. After playing through back stiffness against the Wings, the Fever guard came alive against the Sparks. But it was her contest with Cameron Brink during a play that became one of the game’s major highlights, even prompting the league to react.

The play occurred during the first half of the game. Clark drove the ball near the Sparks’ court, attempting to score a layup. But Brink caught Clark mid-air and swatted her shot away. Right afterward, Brink celebrated the highlight with her Sparks teammates.
The WNBA took notice of this excellent defensive play from Brink and even shared a highlight reel on its Instagram account, along with a 4-word caption. “Not In Cam’s House,” the caption read.
The moment signified perfect execution from Cameron Brink. And to be honest, it was kind of a staple for her, who was among the top five players in the league during her rookie season in 2024. Brink added two more blocks in the game – one against Clark in the fourth quarter, when CC was looking to score a jump shot.
And once in the third quarter against Aliyah Boston in the first quarter, when the latter was in position to score a 5-foot two-pointer. All in all, Brink’s two-way skill set was quite prominent in the game, so much so that it even caught the league’s attention. The Fever guard also recorded 11 points and 5 rebounds, besides her defensive prowess.
Despite this performance and Nneka Ogwumike’s game awareness, the Indiana Fever offense never looked out of sorts. The team shot 49% and even made 30% from the three-point line. Furthermore, the Fever moved the ball quite impressively, and each possession counted.
For the LA Sparks, Kelsey Plum scored a game-high 25 points, and veteran Ogwumike chimed in with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. But once Fever’s trio got into the groove, none of it mattered.

Despite Brink’s upper hand at times over Caitlin Clak, the Fever guard looked quite impressive in the game. CC checked the scoring right after tipoff, scoring an 8-foot two-point shot. And following that, just kept doubling down on it. Clark eventually finished the night with a team-high 24 points, while dishing out 9 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds.
Her three-point shooting was quite disappointing as she went just 1 of 7. But from an all-around perspective, CC didn’t miss a beat. Kelsey Mitchell also fared quite well, dropping 23 on the Sparks. Sophie Cunningham and Monique Billings combined for 21 as the Indiana Fever won the game 87-78.
All in all, the offense was quite impressive, and the numbers back it up immediately. But for Clark, another aspect of the game caught her attention even more.
Caitlin Clark Lauds Her Team’s Defense After a Much-Needed Win Against the LA Sparks
Coming into the LA Sparks, the fans’ undivided attention was on how the Fever would fare defensively. In their season-opener against the Wings, they were dismal in that regard. The team gave away over 50% of its shots, including from the three-point line, in a crushing defeat.
But against the Sparks, the Fever successfully flipped the conversation. With the addition of Monique Billings, the Fever’s defense got a bit more depth. And along with Boston and others, they were able to hold off the loose balls on the defensive end and restrict the Sparks to just 78 points.
More importantly, the Indiana Fever also took far fewer shots beyond the arc. The team allowed just 13% in that regard, showing it defended the half-court quite well. And after this stellar outing on the defensive, Caitlin Clark was all praises for her team in the on-court interview after the game.
“We knew how good thery were,” Clark said. “They’re a second-half, fourth-quarter team…Overall proud of the fight. That’s what the team is going to be like. So proud of our group.”
“Absolutely, we’re gonna win a lot of games if the other team scores 78 points,” Clark added when asked if she’s happy with the team’s defensive scheme against the Sparks.
With the win, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever finally open their account in the new season. The team is finally getting its momentum back. Their core players, including Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Boston, are clicking in quite well yet again.
On the other hand, new players like Billings and Tyisha Harris are making their contributions. All in all, it’s quite certain that in their perfect sync, the Indiana Fever will be quite hard to stop on their day. And the LA Sparks game was just a perfect example of it.
After this win, the Fever will return to Indianapolis for their next games. They will look to defend Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the Washington Mystics on May 15, then face the Seattle Storm on May 17.
