When the worlds of music and the NBA collide, it quickly becomes the talk of the town. It’s nothing new; the league has always had strong ties with pop culture. The latest chapter in that crossover unfolded in July 2025 when it became increasingly clear that Klay Thompson of the Dallas Mavericks was dating Megan Thee Stallion.

“I have never dated somebody so kind,” the rapper said in an interview with Page Six. “This is my first relationship where I’ve ever been with somebody who’s genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy. I just never dated somebody like him before and I’m just grateful that he’s here by my side and he feels the same way about me.” But that no longer seems to be the case. Reports suggest the pair have since split, with Megan accusing the former Warriors star of cheating.

Now, WNBA star Lexie Brown was the rumored WNBA player Thompson was cheating on Stallion with. But the WNBA star has come out t0 shut all the noise from her side.

“I’ve seen what’s been said online, and I want to be clear, none of it is true and I have no involvement in this situation,” Brown wrote on her Instagram stories. “This new week marks the start of an important and exciting new season for me, and my focus is fully on that.”

The talks stemmed from the Instagram activity from both. Thompson had unfollowed Lexie Brown, who, in turn, made her Instagram account private. This was read as deliberate distancing after the rumors caught some steam. Some fans also claim that Brown shared details of her conversations with Thompson with her close friends on Instagram.

The rumors were already far-fetched and based on little evidence. Neither Stallion nor Thompson had acknowledged it. In addition,  Lexie Brown and Klay Thompson have little connection other than their shared basketball circles. Brown’s father Dee played in the NBA from 1990 to 2002 and even coached the Pistons and the Kings in the early 2010s. This rumor particularly drew a lot of hate towards Brown as Megan Thee Stallion fans rained down on her.

It all traced back to one Instagram post from Megan Thee Stallion that quickly took over the internet. In that post, she effectively confirmed her breakup with Klay Thompson after nearly a year of dating, saying she now needs a “real break.”

“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’” she wrote. “Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season. Now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’???? Bi-ch I need a REAL break after this one.. bye y’all.”

This wasn’t something fans expected. If anything, all signs pointed to them being in a great place. Just this past February, Megan Thee Stallion shared how Klay Thompson went all out for her 31st birthday, a tropical getaway, luxury gifts, even a reported $200K Bentley.

She also gave fans a glimpse into their time together, sharing photos from the British Virgin Islands. At that point, it all looked like a relationship that was only getting stronger. But that wasn’t to be.

Just hours after announcing her breakup with Thompson, Stallion was seen in tears following her “Moulin Rouge” performance. In a now-viral clip, she was seen wiping her tears as the crowd rose for a standing ovation, with a fan shouting, “We love you!” as she turned away, trying to gather herself before exiting the stage. The moment didn’t go unnoticed, as it also drew a heartfelt reaction from the Bayou Barbie, Angel Reese.

“It’s the way you show up even while carrying so much—that’s what makes you THAT girl,” Reese said.  “You always have a little sister riding for you at dawn. I love you, sister.”

There have been several videos circulating online claiming that Thompson also accused Megan Thee Stallion of cheating, even suggesting she asked for $700K a month for “upkeep” and living expenses. However, those clips have since been proven to be fake, with many still waiting for Thompson to address the situation himself.

While this is clearly a difficult phase for both the rapper and the NBA star, the timing couldn’t be worse for Brown either.

She has suffered through Crohn’s disease over the last couple of years and only found herself fully fit for this season. She struggled during the 2024 season with the same and was traded “out of the blue” from the Sparks to the Storm. “My work ethic and my talent were constantly being questioned because I got sick,” Brown said. “That hasn’t been an easy thing for me to deal with.”

She averaged just 9.5 minutes per game last season and is looking to make more impact in this one. Even this season, the journey is not easy as Lexie Brown needs to prove herself in the offseason to earn a place in this Seattle roster.

Lexie Brown Faces Stiff Competition for Her Spot in Seattle

Lexie Brown signed a 2-year, $195,226 contract with the Los Angeles Sparks, including an average annual salary of $97,613. After which she was traded to the Storm. In 2026, Brown will earn a base salary of $277,500, while carrying a cap hit of $277,500 and a dead cap value of $98,818. A dead cap value means only that amount is guaranteed for Brown. Since that is lower than her contract, the Storm can afford to waive her in theory. Considering their roster construction, she is facing an uphill task in finding her place.

The Storm have a talented guard rotation, particularly point guard. They have signed Natisha Hiedeman from the Lynx, who will likely start. Behind them, they have Jade Melbourne, Zia Cooke, and Lexie Brown, who will compete for their spot on the roster. Fortunately, there are 12 spots available going forward with the new CBA kicking in.

Brown does have a few advantages. The team could value her experience in the league after spending 8 years in it. Melbourne and Cooke have played for three each. So, an experienced backup to Hiedeman could be a way to go. However, Melbourne is coming off a better season than that of Brown.

She averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 assists for the Mystics, even starting 12 games for them. In the first preseason clash, Brown started to contribute 9 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 2-3 from the 3-point line. The Storm could also move her to shooting guard in order to retain her outside shooting. So, while the rumors may have briefly pulled her into an unwanted spotlight, the real challenge lies ahead in Seattle, where every minute will have to be earned.
