Spectators at the Breeze vs. Lunar Owls matchup were treated to a rare highlight when Dominique Malonga delivered a powerful dunk that instantly became the moment of the game. Rising above the outstretched arms of defenders, Malonga elevated effortlessly and finished with authority at the rim, drawing a stunned reaction and a standing ovation from the crowd. Fans leapt to their feet, clapping and cheering as the magnitude of the dunk sank in, while WBB reporters on-site noted the arena had truly come alive to appreciate the moment.

Dunks remain an uncommon sight in women’s basketball, making the sequence all the more notable. When asked afterward about the dunk, Malonga downplayed the moment, brushing off the achievement with characteristic poise.

“I was happy to feel the love from the whole arena, everybody was so so hyped up so I was happy. I’m not really like expressive on the court so I know I didn’t show it up but it was blowing my mind, actually so that was a great moment,” said Dominique Malonga on how she was able to hold her composure after doing the unthinkable.

With the Breeze holding a narrow 14–10 lead, the defining moment of the night soon followed. Rickea Jackson secured a defensive rebound, spotted Dominique Malonga streaking ahead of the defense, and delivered a perfectly timed overhead pass. Malonga did the rest, elevating with her trademark leap and finishing at the rim to ignite the crowd at Sephora Arena. The momentum carried through the rest of the contest, as the Breeze maintained control and secured their second consecutive victory, defeating the Lunar Owls 75–68.

This wasn’t Dominique Malonga’s first dunk. The 6’6″ phenom had already thrown down her first career dunk in Switzerland in 2024 during a club game that drew widespread attention. Revisiting that milestone, this time on a different stage and in a different moment of her career, surely carried its own kind of significance.

As for league history, Malonga was not the first player to dunk in Unrivaled, as that distinction belongs to Brittney Griner from the league’s previous season. Still, the moment stood firmly on its own. Malonga capped off the performance with 21 points and eight rebounds, finishing as the third-highest scorer in the game, while Paige Bueckers once again led all scorers.

Another 20-point game highlights Paige Bueckers’ unstoppable form

This was the third consecutive time this season that Paige Buckers found herself scoring a +20 in a game. Now this is getting to a point where the opposition should really map out a strategy to focus on her because if this keeps going on unchecked, you’ve got a big problem on your hands.

Against the Lunar Owls, Bueckers was all over and, along with Dominique Malonga, poured in some lethal damage that was hard to recover from. She made 10-of-17 shooting, adding seven assists and five rebounds as the Breeze improved to 4-2. The performance came on the heels of her career-high 37-point outing in an 83-64 win over the Mist.

As of now, no team has been able to really hold Paige off when she is in her full flow. Rose was able to restrict her to 15 points and Hive to 16 points, but apart from that, it was easy peasy for the Dallas Wings player. Which again makes us wonder how she fares against Caitlin Clark if the latter had committed herself to Unrivaled? Would it get personal?

But Paige has also ruled out that possibility, sharing how she and Caitlin are on “cool” terms and how the personal grudges and animosity that is presented by the media is nothing more than an exaggeration.

“It’s crazy because everyone’s pitting me and Caitlin against each other for the longest time,” Bueckers said. “And we’re cool, we’re friends. But again, it’s respect to the competition, so we understand that,” she would add while speaking on the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast with Kylie Kelce.

So when the news directly comes from the horse’s mouth, it cannot be argued, and it seems that both these players actually ‘gel’ off court. However, the mouthwatering prospect of having them duke it out on court in Unrivaled did have quite an appeal. Just like we still haven’t seen Caitlin go up against her other ‘nemesis’, Angel Reese, in Unrivaled. But one can definitely dream.
