Season 2 of Unrivaled Basketball continues to entice fans with its high-intensity 3×3 basketball featuring a host of top players from the WNBA. With a lot of matches already out of the way, the standings are starting to take shape. But one team that has struggled to find a trope to succeed on court is Hive BC.

Hive BC is stuck towards the bottom of the Standings, having lost three games in a row. Key player Sonia Citron and Head Coach Rena Wakama talked to the press after their latest defeat at the hands of Vinyl and cited defense as one of the primary reasons behind their inability to register a win in Season 2 so far.

Sonia Citron iterated that there were positives to take from the good start they had and that they now have to figure out a way to keep it going for the full game. Rena Wakama echoed her sentiments, stating that the priority now is to find a way to play the full length of the game in the same manner.

Citron’s summary hits the nail on the head.

Hive BC started well and was competing for the lead against Vinyl early on. The game was close throughout the first half, with Hive leading by a point with less than a minute left on the clock till halftime. However, successive three-pointers from Rhyne Howard pushed the Vinyl to a seven-point lead.

The third quarter, though, changed everything in the game, something Rena Wakama agreed with.

The Hive players ended up conceding a 23-point lead by the end of the third quarter, with the game seemingly out of their hands as Hive lost 89-66 in the end.

Hive’s defense has been the poorest so far this season, leaking 234 points in just 3 games. This, despite Hive being one of the league leaders in blocks per game with 5.7 blocks made on average, makes for dire reading.

The Hive BC Head Coach also touched upon the topic of their flailing defensive performances.

Wakama said, “We just got to do a better job of adjusting when someone gets hot and just knowing where they are and not giving them any easy looks.”

Hive’s inability to lock Dearica Hamby down on the night proved to be detrimental. The 32-year-old forward ended the game with a historic 40 points in just over 18 minutes played and seemed to never miss, making 16 of her 23 shot attempts.

While this was their best offensive performance so far in Season 2 of Unrivaled, Hive Head Coach Rena Wakama would hope she can improve her defense in time to start competing for wins before it’s too late.

Sonia Citron has struggled to adapt to Unrivaled Basketball so far

The Washington Mystics picked Sonia Ctiron, who became the third pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, joining the franchise from the fabled college program at Notre Dame. The 22-year-old took to the WNBA with startling ease and became an integral part of the Washington Mystics roster.

The shooting guard showcased her prowess from beyond the three-point arc, ending the 2025 season as the most accurate three-point shooter in the WNBA. However, the 22-year-old has been unable to replicate her 44.5% three-point accuracy for Hive in Unrivaled thus far, struggling to find the basket from beyond the arc.

In fact, Citron has made just 1 three-pointer across all three games combined, despite attempting 13 shots, which is a dire contrast to how she fared in her WNBA debut. Head Coach Rena Wakama would hope Citron can put her shooting boots on quickly, with Hive struggling to find momentum on either end of the court.
