The ongoing CBA uncertainty has been a prickly point for most stakeholders in Women’s Basketball. As the disagreement between the WNBA and the WNBPA continues, neither side is showing signs of letting up or giving in to the other body’s demands. And this is now starting to frustrate the people who want to see their favorite players take to the court.

The WNBA and WNBPA announced that the bodies had agreed to a moratorium as negotiations drag on past the revised CBA deadline. There are now genuine concerns and talks that if such disagreement continues for a longer period, we could be heading towards a potential ‘lockout’ of the WNBA, something the Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has found ‘dumb.’

Sophie now hinted at revealing more information surrounding the CBA uncertainty in an Instagram story.

The story reads that the Indiana Fever star is “excited to share some stuff with you guys towards the end of the month,” mostly pointing towards the CBA discussions that she had recently talked about on the Show Me Something Podcast.

Sophie disapproves of the pace at which the talks are ongoing and made her displeasure known on the podcast.

Speaking to co-host West Wilson, Sophie highlighted, “Me and Sydney Colson were the only ones there this past week, and our CBA is so dumb right now, like it’s heading towards a lockout. So, nothing, we get weekly emails from the PA side of things, and it’s just so dumb.”

Regarding the numbers behind the CBA disagreement, revenue share is at the heart of the problem.

While the WNBPA reportedly feels a 30% revenue share is more than deserving, considering their contribution towards the increased popularity behind the WNBA, the governing body is reported to be looking at somewhere between 15 to 17%.

Also, the moratorium announcement only means further delays in other proceedings, which could even see the start of the 2026 WNBA season being delayed. The Expansion Draft, Free Agency, and the 2026 WNBA Draft are three major preseason events that are being held because of the impasse.

At this point, there is a real possibility that fans will have to watch a curtailed WNBA season, or at worst, something else, if this disagreement ends in a lockout. The WNBA hopefuls will also be dismayed with the ongoing proceedings as their future hangs in the balance.

Sophie Cunningham continues to drop hints at favored 2026 WNBA destination

The Indiana Fever guard is one of many names that could be missing from the list of protected players for the upcoming Expansion Draft. While the Indiana Fever management is yet to make a decision, thanks to the agreed moratorium, only six players can be protected from the Expansion Draft. This number could even drop to five depending on how the negotiations between the WNBA and WNBPA go.

However, Sophie Cunningham is not shying away from making her feelings known about where she would want to ply her trade in the 2026 WNBA season.

The Missouri-born player had earlier stated that she would love to team up with Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull once again at Indiana and pursue the WNBA Championship.

The latest hint comes in the form of her appearance at the home of the Indiana Fever and the Indiana Pacers. Sophie Cunningham was spotted at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Indiana Pacers snatched a late 98-96 win over the Boston Celtics. Her attendance was also confirmed through a post by the Indiana Fever account on the social media platform X.

Sophie has had a great career at the Indiana Fever since being traded to the franchise in 2024.

The 29-year-old played 30 games for the Indiana Fever in 2025, averaging 8.6 points per game. However, it is her defensive acumen and the visible chemistry with her teammates that won the fans’ hearts.

The teams cannot offer any contracts to free agents or even name the protected players from the Expansion Draft during the agreed moratorium, as the CBA negotiations take center stage. However, fans will be hoping the Indiana Fever franchise finds a way to retain Sophie Cunningham for the 2026 WNBA season.
