La Liga champions Real Madrid confirmed that they agreed to sell the forward to Juventus.  The Bianconeri later announced the deal, noting that Ronaldo signed a four-year contract. Sources say that Ronaldo’s deal is worth “around £500,000-a-week.”

Ronaldo’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu had come into question after he suggested his time at the club was ending. The comments came on the back of their Champions League final win over Liverpool in May.

Former Spain manager, Julen Lopetegui has taken over from Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo’s exit heralds a new era.

The 33-year old’s time at the top of the game could be limited, but his impact has increased with age. He has been the architect of Real’s four UEFA Champions League wins in the past five years. As a bonus, he even won the European Championships with Portugal in 2016.

Ronaldo has also sealed two La Liga trophies at Real, as well as three FIFA Club World Cups, two Copa del Reys, two UEFA Super Cups and two Spanish Super Cups.

If Ronaldo were ever to leave Real, it would be for an emotional return to Old Trafford. But the Juventus move comes as a surprise to many. Incidentally, Real eliminated them from the Champions League last season in the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo was also part of the team that beat the Bianconeri in the 2017 Champions League final, but he’ll now look to take Juve—runners-up in two of the past four seasons—to continental glory.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the move.
