The legendary American tennis player left the sport after making a name for herself. In order to explore other spheres of life away from the tennis court, she retired after this year’s US Open.

The Game Changer athlete of the year 2022

The 41-year-old retired tennis star was among the biggest names on the list of athletes considered for the Game Changer of the Year award at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. Another tennis ace Rafael Nadal, Chloe Kim an American snowboarder, legendary NBA player LeBron James, American soccer player Megan Rapinoe, Nathan Chen, Russell Wilson, and the Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry were in the running for the award. Williams outlasted such well-known personalities to win this People’s choice award.

Serena Williams is unquestionably a game-changer who raised the bar on and off the tennis court, by redefining what is possible in the face of insurmountable odds. Together with other tennis legends, the 23-time Grand Slam winner transformed the sport’s perception among the masses and raised the bar for his fellow athletes.

Despite not having a successful season on the court this year, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has won the hearts of her fans with her book and her hard work and dedication to her business initiatives. The 41-year-old tennis star beat off the Spaniard earlier this year to rank third on Forbes‘ ranking of the highest-paid tennis players.
