It was a chance encounter that set Alex de Minaur and WTA pro Katie Boulter on their way to getting engaged last year in December. Surprisingly, their first meeting was not on the tennis court but at a hotel where they were both staying. Bumping into each other at six in the morning, they ended up having coffee and that was when de Minaur knew he “was in it for the long haul.” Since then, the World No.8 ATP star has time and again expressed his endless love for Boulter, noting, “Her(Katie Boulter) companionship was something I’d been looking for: it gave me a sense of peace.” de Minaur and Boulter did share another piece of exciting news for their fans last month and their love was on display once again during WTA’s latest rebrand campaign.

Remember that small message from Boulter on IG a few months ago? “We’ve been keeping a small secret… 🤭,” she wrote while displaying a special gift given by the World No.8 ATP star. That secret was the news of their engagement and the special gift was an exclamation mark on their relationship in the form of an emerald cut diamond. Boulter made sure to flaunt it once again on a different stage.

On Thursday, WTA opted to revolutionize its famous purple logo with a green one. The massive change comes four years after WTA introduced the purple logo in December 2020 with the tagline ‘For the Game’. This time, it’s ‘Rally the World’. To celebrate the moment, they shared various clips featuring top female tennis stars, like Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, and Elena Rybakina among others. And the British pro Katie Boulter?

Well, the official WTA account on Instagram shared a series of pictures featuring the World No.26. Boulter can be seen confidently posing with a racket in her hand in one picture. Then there’s one where she’s tossing up a ball in the air. But there’s another one, featuring a silhouette, where she’s posing with the racket in her right hand. When looked at closely, you can also spot a shiny object on the ring finger of her left hand. Yes, it is that very ring that de Minaur gave her on their engagement.

The 2025 Australian Open quarterfinalist was in awe of Boulter after spotting his ring. Being elated, he simply posted a “💍” emoji to send his love to Boulter while beaming with pride to see her carrying the ring in style. The couple has never shied away from showcasing their love and support for each other.

Back in 2023, when de Minaur lost in the QF round of ATP Rotterdam, Katie made sure to make his day amazing. Trying to cheer him up, she shared several pictures of them and wrote, “Older but no wiser. Happy birthday guapo (handsome).” This year as well, when he went to Doha to compete at the Qatar Open, Boulter was counting down the days to his birthday.

On the eve of his first-round match in Doha, on February 18, Boulter took to her Instagram and wrote, “Celebrating you today and everyday 😌🫰🏼🎂🎈🎉” The message was accompanied by a series of pictures showing the two sharing sweet moments from the past. The Australian has also been a constant pillar of support for Boulter.

At the 2022 Wimbledon tournament, De Minaur praised his partner following her win against Karolina Pliskova, giving her the spotlight. “Before we talk about my match, can we just talk about Katie Boulter today? I mean, she had a pretty good win herself,” he said to the BBC during a press conference.

After her second-round loss at Wimbledon 2024, Boulter shared de Minaur’s advice for her: “One match doesn’t define your career.” “He knows what he’s talking about. It’s not his first rodeo. He’s been through it all before, and I’m lucky to have that support,” she said.

Does the engagement of de Minaur and Boulter set a new standard for couple goals in sports?

Their relationship began in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic forced global lockdowns. Separated by distance, they navigated the early stages of their romance primarily through FaceTime.

They made their relationship public a year later, marking their first anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post in March 2021. “We’re on the same wavelength when it comes to our priorities,” Boulter told Tatler. “Tennis is where we want to be—and the rest will come.”

Due to their busy schedules, they are hardly able to spend time with each other while staying away. But distances can never outweigh love, right? Even though their relationship didn’t begin on the tennis court, the couple will look to strengthen their bond after hinting at their interest in teaming up at the U.S. Open.

Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur ready to embrace the U.S Open change

The mixed doubles event at the U.S. Open will undergo a change this year. The competition will now take place in the week before the singles tournament kicks off. This means the grand slam will now be a three-week event and more exposure to the mixed doubles players. The draw size has also been halved from 32 to 16 teams and will be played across just two days.

The qualification process has also been tweaked. Eight teams will earn direct entry based on their combined singles ranking and not their combined doubles rankings and there will be eight wild-card entries. Citing these changes, de Minaur shared that he would be keen to play mixed doubles with his fiancee.

“Me personally, I really enjoy playing mixed doubles, so I think it’s going to be fun to hopefully play some mixed with Katie, which will be exciting,” he said.“I think we’ve both learned a lot from each other’s tours (he and Boulter). Before we were together, we probably didn’t know as much. It’s been kind of fun to have those two dynamics. We bounce off each other – she gives me advice, I give her advice,” he further added.

Their inseparable bond is perhaps the reason why they even won last year’s ATP Socials ‘Couple Goals’ award in November and now they might just look to conquer the court as well.
