Mark Knowles highlights Brad Gilbert’s ability to guide Coco Gauff in a ‘slightly different’ way
Recently, the 52-year-old Bahamian tennis coach appeared on a recent episode of the ‘Tennis Channel Inside-In’ podcast, where he talked about the Australian Open. In that conversation, he also talked about how he’s quite curious to witness Coco Gauff’s journey, which he would like to see in the first Grand Slam Tournament of the year. Along with this, he also expressed his interest in witnessing the head coach’s gameplay for the tournament.
Knowles said, “We know Brad is, you know, a fantastic tactician, so I have a feeling what they did in the offseason was they probably sat down and said, ‘Alright, let’s look at our game.'” He further talked about how Gilbert minimized Gauff’s weakness and got a closer look at her opponents during his tenure as a coach. Along with that, Knowles also praised his ‘let’s go out and attack’ mindset that helped Gauff win the US Open title.
But that was not it. He also stated, “So that’s what I’m going to be curious because I feel that this was probably a different offseason for Coco Gauff where you got people like Brad in your ear talking slightly different rather than just working on your game.”
Mark Knowles came ahead with praise for the Gilbert-Gauff duo, calling the 62-year-old American tennis coach a tactician, but do you know that Gilbert himself applauded the 2023 US Open champion ahead of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year?
