Pere Riba talks about his split with Coco Gauff

The third-ranked tennis player and the Spanish tennis coach have been working together for almost five months now, with their partnership resulting in a Grand Slam victory and other WTA titles. Even after achieving success together, both of them shocked the tennis world by ending their partnership. Recently, after the news came to light, the 35-year-old tennis coach, in an interview with Marca, shared his side of the story, sharing different convictions about the split.

Riba shared a very optimistic statement regarding how different conditions led to this conclusion and how it has nothing to do with Coco Gauff. He stated that the main reason behind the split was somehow related to the fact that he was not able to travel with her as much as possible “due to personal family issues.”

Further, he added, “I am very happy with the work we have done together, because all the objectives were met, and I am convinced that next year Gauff will be number one.” Subsequently, he also praised the 19-year-old tennis player’s efforts and delivered a verdict regarding her position on the tennis circuit next year.

While the 2023 US Open winner is competing in the WTA Finals in Mexico, the 35-year-old tennis coach was not a member of her coaching team, which also traveled to Cancun for the same reason, causing worry in the tennis community. But after winning the first round against Ons Jabeur, the third-ranked tennis player also opened up about the decision.

Coco Gauff shared her side of the story 

After winning the first round of the tournament, she made this shocking announcement about the separation and also disclosed that it was not her decision. She stated, “Unfortunately, it wasn’t my decision. But we had to end the partnership. If it was up to me, I would have loved to have him here. But you know, things happen. Life happens. So no bad terms on our end.”

Along with that, she also praised the Spanish coach, saying that he is a great guy who has helped her to improve on both a personal and professional level. Moreover, Gauff added that was not her decision, and the split is quite mutual between the two of them.
