Days After Erupting Tennis World With ‘Cake’ Saga, Madrid Open Lands in Fresh Soup As 19-Year-Old Coco Gauff Exposes the Tournament With a Sly Dig

Yesterday marked the triumphant conclusion of the 2023 Madrid Open championship. The clay court competition featured some excellent matchups among young tennis talents. Apart from the fact that tennis stars played excellent tennis. There were a few blunders that infuriated both tennis players and spectators. Yes, while the tournament was coming to an end, there were a few instances that upset the tennis world.

A few days ago, the event organizers made headlines for the size of the cake Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka received on their birthdays. However, following the cake saga, the American tennis player Coco Gauff, the tournament’s double finalist, brought attention to how they were not given an opportunity to speak up during the trophy ceremony.

Yesterday, Gauff and Pegula played the championship match but were defeated by Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Maia Hadid. However, after the match, the tennis stars who played in the tournament finals didn’t get an opportunity to speak up after the match. Recently, the world’s 5th ranked tennis player took to her Twitter account to share this shocking news. Along with that, took a sly dig at her doubles partner.

She wrote, “Wasn’t given the chance to speak after the final today:( But thank you to the fans for supporting us and women’s tennis this week! Thanks @JLPegula for always keeping it fun on the court and hitting unreal clutch shots. Hahahaha Lastly, big congratulations Vika and Bia.”

Many tennis players criticized the Madrid Open for not allowing the doubles finalist to speak up after the match. And immediately came out in support of the 19-year-old tennis player. Jessica Pegula, Gauff’s doubles partner, took over the situation by tweeting a slew of emojis expressing her displeasure with the situation.

Ons Jabeur, on the other hand, openly discussed the subject in a tweet and emphasized how this behavior is inappropriate. She wrote, “So unfortunate that you were not given a chance to address the crowd and your opponents. This is sad and unacceptable.”

However, this was not the only distressing incident that occurred throughout the competition. Just a few days earlier, a significant cake discrimination incident occurred, raising issues about the tournament organizers’ conduct.

Sabalenka and Alcaraz’s cake disparity at the Madrid Open 

At the Madrid Open, tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka, who were both born on the same day, enjoyed successful runs. They also both celebrated their birthdays while playing in the tournament. And as a part of customary celebrations, the event organizers presented cakes to both tennis players.
