Markéta Vondroušová had one of the most fantastic tournaments of her career this Wimbledon. After already playing in one final, Vondroušová played against the entire competition to win her maiden grand slam title. An underdog, by all means, she outperformed every other player on grass. Mats Wilander, Swedish tennis legend, believes that she can play much better on hard court.

Vondroušová played a smashing final against Ons Jabeur after already dashing Elina Svitolina in the semifinal. The Czech player won the first set with finesse. In the second set, Jabeur showed some signs of a resurgence. However, her hopes and momentum were dashed as she lost another final.

Markéta Vondroušová will play better at the US Open

Vondroušová has achieved immense glory as she won the Wimbledon. Pundits from around the world are lauding the player. She first seemed to be in a slump but then fought back. The momentum will be intense enough to carry Vondroušová far in the upcoming US Open. Mats Wilander, seven-time grand slam champion, believes that she will play much better on the hard court slam.

During an interview with Eurosport, the Swedish legend praised her mental aspect to play in the Wimbledon final. He also said that the final answered how she would perform after losing two major finals.  Well, I mean, obviously she’s a very, very crafty, great tennis player that didn’t mind the pressure of playing a Wimbledon final,” he began. “That was the question that we didn’t know the answer to because she’s obviously lost two big finals, one at the French, one at the Olympics before, but she came in and she was very calm.”
