‘Don’t Know What You Want Us To Do’ – Irritated Victoria Azarenka Lashes Out at Media Over a Political Question on Novak Djokovic’s Father

Novak Djokovic has once again become the talk of the town, and this time it is again in a bad spotlight. His father, Srdjan was seen standing with people supporting Russia. The Belarusian player, Victoria Azarenka, was asked about that and she had a befitting reply to that. An ardent supporter of Novak Djokovic, Azarenka has resonated with the player more than once, especially at the Australian Open.

The issue drew a lot of criticism from people all over the world. And the target of these criticisms was not only his father. Novak Djokovic too got a lot of backlash for his father’s stance.

The father of the Serbian tennis legend stirred up a debate when he hung out with the Russian supporters. Moreover, these supporters were waving Russia’s flag and were outrightly chanting in favor of Vladimir Putin. However, that gave people the opportunity to point his fingers at Djokovic too. When the Belarusian player was asked about it, she gave a fitting reply shunning the people’s criticism of Djokovic.

In an interview after the match, she stated, “I don’t know what it has to do with Novak. Don’t know what you want us to do.” She questioned why it has become an issue that concerns Djokovic in the first place.

She asked, “These incidents have nothing to do with players, but you keep dragging players into it. What’s the goal here?” Posing an introspective question, she stated, “You should ask yourself that question, not me.”

Djokovic last year too had complaints about the media which had portrayed him in a bad light. From his vaccination status to his run in an ATP event in Israel, the player had tabloids portraying him in a negative light. Once again, such an issue has risen and some questions have to be asked on both ends.

Azarenka resonated with Djokovic’s experience of being in the negative spotlight

Tennis is a well-known sport and climbing up in the ranking charts also means getting on the moral radar of the people too. And this has been a concern for both Azarenka and Djokovic.

In her post-match conference, she expressed her frustration over how a villain and hero story has to be written surrounding the players. She also resonated with Djokovic’s concern about putting him in a bad light.
