Roger Federer has clearly won the Canadian WTA star Leylah Fernandez‘s heart. In a recent interview, Fernandez was asked to pick her favorite tennis stars based on their strokes. Fernandez, unlike others, focused primarily on one person- the Swiss Maestro. As she mentioned Federer’s name four times, fans got to know about her inspiration.

Recently, Tennis Channel shared a clip on their official Instagram channel, where they interviewed many WTA stars. These players were asked to name tennis stars who mastered certain tennis strokes like serve, backhand, and forehand.

From serve to backhand, Leylah Fernandez prioritizes Roger Federer for his incredible skills at all the tennis strokes

The moment this question was asked to Leylah Fernandez, without wasting any time, she rapidly dropped Roger Federer’s name. She said- “Easy Roger Federer”. When the interviewer asked her again whether she was picking Federer for all three, Fernandez smiled and chanted Federer’s name three more times.

However, after coming out of her fangirl moment, Fernandez said, “Ok let’s be serious now. Serve I will go with Raonic, right will be Raonic, left-handed would be Shelton, Ben Shelton, forehand let’s go with Alcaraz, backhand Djokovic. Love his backhand.”

While Fernandez later gave a different answer, her initial reaction was enough to prove that she is a big Federer fan. However, this is not the first time Leylah Fernandez revealed her admiration for Federer. Previously also, she spoke about getting inspired by the Swiss legend.

Fernandez expressed her great admiration for Roger Federer

Fernandez spoke about her admiration for the Swiss legend in a podcast show by Sky Sports. This Canadian WTA star was asked to pick five people from the tennis fraternity, to whom she wished to host a dinner. For ATP,  Fernandez said- “I was gonna say, you knew it right away huh? I would pick Roger, yes and then I think, umm…and Frances, he is always like fun conversation, so it’s always fun to have to spend time with him, just having him there would make the night fun.” 

Leylah Fernandez’s response expressed that she admires the Swiss tennis legend very much. Why wouldn’t she be? From tennis skills to personality, Federer truly impressed the whole tennis fraternity. Leylah Fernandez is not shy to express his admiration for the twenty-time Grand Slam winner.
