EXCLUSIVE: Coco Gauff’s Stronghold Over Her Emotions Draws Striking Jannik Sinner Parallels

Coco Gauff has shown great improvements in the 2023 season. She has been touted as a great player ever since she achieved her debut grand slam victory in 2019. As she continues to grow, Gauff has shown signs of mental growth. In an exclusive with Essentially Sports, a former Russian tennis player talks about her best factor, which makes her similar to Jannik Sinner.

Along with her specialty, Dimitry Tursunov also touched up on the factors Gauff has to improve if she wants to continue growing. Regardless, he is highly impressed with the mental ability she has shown in her past performances.

The 20-year-old American youngster has shown that she can remain calm under challenging situations. Win or lose, finals or not, Gauff has managed to maintain a level head in most of her clashes. Her focus has impressed many in the tennis world, and Tursunov has gone on to call her similar to Jannik Sinner when it comes to thinking maturely.

I find that she’s very similar to Jannik Sinner and in the fact that she’s very mature for her age, she’s um, she’s not emotional, she’s um, I think these are all very good ingredients, I mean, and she’s athletic very athletic she’s very gifted in that sense.” The fewer incidents of her outbursts, along with her composure during losses, is likely what evoked the thought in the former Russian player.

Veronika Kudermetova’s coach also touched upon Gauff’s weaknesses. While he did mention them to be concerning, he firmly believes that she has the power to overcome them. 

Gauff has the power to overcome her faults 

Tursunov talked about the issues Gauff has with her service, as she is prone to double faults. He also mentioned the factual matter of her weak forehand. While these issues are there, he believes she has the power to overcome them. “I think the work ethic is there. I think the, um, the levelheaded headedness is there, so I don’t see anything that can push her out of the top 10 unless she just, you know, loses her mind and, you know or just starts spending too much time doing other things.”

Gauff has shown a great work ethic when it comes to tennis. While she is involved with other ventures, Gauff’s main focus is on her tennis career. The American youngster will look to resolve her problems and become a player the future will remember.
