The most energetic major of the year is going on in full swing. Consequently, players are going to win and lose matches. However, there are some off-court elements who have proved to be of more trouble than assistance during such times.

That is why Swiss player Belinda Bencic has some important advice for players to cancel out the noise. During her post-match conference, she stated, “I think it’s important to try & take the right advice, & not listen to all the advice.”

Competing professionally obviously keeps players on edge. However, Bencic wants her fellow players to take it easy. She stated, “Try not to overthink every little thing… try not to listen to too many people, too many ‘tennis experts’ & everyone who thinks knows better how to play on the court.”

Finally, she talked about how just remembering that it is about one’s love for the sport is enough. She concluded, “Just go your own way. Just enjoy being on the court. Sometimes we forget that.”

Ruud on reacting to “tennis experts” online 

The French Open finalist has maintained a low-key image both on and off the court. However, the Norwegian tennis star confessed that sometimes even he minds others’ views on his gameplay.

The player unfortunately lost to Zhang Zhizhen in a five-set second-round match at the US Open. So, when it came to people’s views on his gameplay, he stated, “I read a bunch of these so-called tennis experts & their opinions. It’s just insane.” The reason is that these “experts” have never even played professionally.

So, Ruud stated that he avoids spending too much on social media. However, such triggering views can make him reply once in a while. He stated, “I have to be really annoyed to actually take the time to reply to someone.”

All in all, he warned that spending too much time and interacting with such people online can set one’s focus off. With their respective arguments, Ruud and Bencic underline the same basic idea- when it comes to online critics, keep the same focus and tune out the noise s you would on the court.
