It is a great accomplishment to reach the quarter-final round of your first Grand Slam competition of the year. And with this, the 20-year-old tennis sensation is on the rise together with Tommy Paul and Coco Gauff.

Mary Joe Fernández praises Ben Shelton

The 51-year-old former tennis star recently appeared in a podcast show called Holding Courts with Patrick McEnroe. The ESPN tennis analyst discussed the 2023 Australian Open during the interview. Additionally, she mentioned how excited she is to watch the younger stars break into the game and discussed how they would influence the sport in the coming future.

Furthermore, while discussing the Australian Open, the 1993 French Open runner-up praised the American sensation who competed in the first 2023 Grand Slam tournament, and eventually his greatest Grand Slam tournament. last year, the tennis star also took part in the US Open, but faced a early exit, that too in the first round itself.

She said, “I love what we saw in Ben Shelton. He’s got a lot of room to improve skills. But he is explosive you know that serve… can you imagine, he improves his return. He’s gonna be a real pain in the b**t to play against. So that will be tough.”

Additionally, the tennis pro believes that with improved skills, the 20-year-old might become one of the hardest opponents to defeat on the tennis court. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old tennis star was all smiles after shattering a significant record at the Australian Open.

The young talent entered the top 50 of the ATP rankings after making it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, moving up from 89th to 44th place. Hopefully, he hones his skills and rules the tennis courts in the near future.
