A similar incident Took place at the US Open when Coco Gauff and her partner Jessica Pegula played against their American counterparts.

Unaware of the score, Gauff jumped up in joy and rushed towards her partner to celebrate her win. The incident took fans back in time to remember a similar episode with Roger Federer. However, Coco’s reaction after acknowledging the instance was priceless.

In a surprising turn of events at the US Open Women’s Doubles, rising tennis star Coco Gauff found herself caught up in an amusing celebratory blunder alongside her partner Jessica Pegula. The duo had convincingly dominated the first set with a 6-2 lead and seemed well on their way to sealing their victory as they took a commanding 4-1 lead in the second set. With the score at 40-0 in their favor, Gauff’s excitement got the best of her after a thrilling series of well-executed shots.

Sealing a point, she mistakenly believed that they had won the match, prompting an exuberant celebration that left spectators and her partner amused. It was Pegula who quickly brought reality back into focus for Gauff. As her partner’s celebratory antics ensued, Pegula playfully reminded Gauff that there was still one crucial point to secure before claiming the victory. Gauff’s initial mix-up might have caused a momentary blush, but she took the incident in stride.

Taking to Twitter later, Gauff shared her lighthearted perspective on the matter, admitting that she had momentarily thought the match had already been won. “I really forgot the score and thought it was over,” wrote  Gauff on Twitter. 

However, this is not the first time such an incident has happened. The focus on the match can sometimes make players overlook the points. Swiss great Roger Federer also encountered a similar incident.

Roger Federer won the match but he did not know he won

Back in 2014, Roger Federer was playing against Kei Nishikori in Halle. It was the semi-finals of the Gerry Weber Open. After having won the first set 6-3, the scores were tied in the second set at 6-6 with Roger leading 6-4 in the match points. After a series of twists and turns, Roger hit a drop shot which landed in the opponent’s net and landed him victory. Completely focused on the match, he was unaware of the score and went back to take the ext serve.

However, it was only later that fans made him realize that he had won the match. Realizing this, he ran straight to the center of the court to shake Kei’s hand and congratulate him for an emphatic win.

Thus, players can come across moments like this when they lose the account of all other things and simply focus on their match. Roger Federer and Coco Gauff are prime examples of this as their instances reveal the dedication and the focus that the players put in their matches.
