Roger Federer’s retirement came as a huge surprise for tennis fans. The 20-time Grand Slam champion was out of the tennis circuit for almost two years because of his injuries. Martina Navratilova believes Roger Federer could play more

Both Navratilova and Roger Federer experienced knee injuries at some point in their tennis careers. The 59-time Grand Slam champion rehabilitated her knees to put her career ahead of injuries, in her 30s. And continued to play for nearly 15 years after having her knee replaced. When she won Wimbledon at the age of 46, the Czech-American tennis player set a record for the oldest person to win a Grand Slam.

However, recently, the former tennis player talked about how the Swiss Maestro still has a lot of tennis left to play. She said, “Roger, on the other hand, would no doubt still play if he could do it physically.” But also raised to question, that he could only return to the tennis court if he is physically fit and ready for it.

She also spoke about Serena Williams‘ retirement. And claimed that she did so on her own terms. Although, the former tennis player earlier believed that she would be finished once her daughter was born. Navratilova further stated that athletes like Federer and Williams were adversely affected by the pandemic.

Navratilova rebuilt her tennis career

After rebuilding her knee, the Czech–American tennis player came back stronger on the tennis court. Her tennis career lasted for more than three decades. She’s had one of the longest tennis careers, that players could have ever imagined. Just before turning 50 in 2006, she won the US Open mixed title.
