With the advancement in technology and facilities, the players tend to extend their careers. A classic example of the same is Swiss maestro Roger Federer and Serena Williams making a return.

Venus Williams also falls in the same category, while Rafael Nadal is almost there. Former tennis player Martina Navratilova tried to explain the mentality of current-day senior players.

Martina Navratilova reacts to extended careers

Talking about the same, Navratilova gave a simple explanation. The 65-year-old said that she understands what goes behind their mind. Navratilova herself extended her career after declaring retirement at an age of 37 but returned to play doubles and did not retire for good, until she was almost 50.

“You really appreciate it, and you realize how lucky you are to be out there doing what we do,” Navratilova said. “It’s a drug. It’s a very legal drug that many people would like to have but they can’t get,” she said.

Roger Federer wants to play Wimbledon one more time

Roger Federer made a return to Wimbledon as a spectator this Sunday. The 40-year-old still looks very young and hopes to play the grass-court Grand Slam next year. Federer last played over a year ago against Hubert Hurkacz in the Wimbledon Championships 2021.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion plans to make a comeback later this year in the Laver Cup. It would be exciting to see the legend back in action after such a long time.
