The French Open is shaping up to be an exciting tournament, with top contenders like Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina vying for the title. But among these up-and-coming talents, some might be a threat. Tennis great Andy Roddick recently highlighted American players Danielle Collins and Madison Keys as potential underdogs who will challenge top-ranked players at Roland Garros.

In a recent ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ podcast, the 41-year-old American tennis legend shared how Collins can make the game interesting for top competitors. He stated, “The only kind of two people that I see in erupting that fur ball a little bit right now based on current form is obviously, your favorite. The Danimal. She’s playing great. I mean, the only person she loses to is Sabalenka. That’s it.”

Not only that, for his second choice, he named Madison Keys, who can turn out to be a problem for Gauff or even Rybakina if she continues her dominant form. The way both Collins and Keys have put up themselves in the other clay-court events, it won’t be wrong to say that Roddick’s prediction regarding these two can turn out to be true in a few days.

Further, he added, “The only person she’s lost to in the last two tournaments is Iga. Um, so like like almost like Coco. Collins may be matched up against Saba that’s bothering her. But like, there’s so many of these players like, oh yeah, they can make a run as long as they don’t have to play Iga. Like she’s such a matchup. Pain in the a**. On top of just being better, but just a brutal pain in the a**.”

Subsequently, if we look back at Keys’ Rome and Madrid play, it was just the world’s number-one-ranked tennis player who could give a tough competition, as she was the one who defeated her in the successful quarterfinal and semi-final rounds of the tournaments respectively. On the other hand, it’s Sabalenka for the 15th-ranked tennis player.

Just a few days ago, Roddick even had an Andre Agassi parallel for Collins, looking into her defined traits on the court.

When Andy Roddick equated Danielle Collins with Andre Agassi

The 41-year-old tennis star said during the Italian Open on a Tennis Channel Live podcast how the Miami Open champion’s style of play reminded him of former World No. 1 Andre Agassi. He said, “What I am seeing from you is the ability to stand in the center of that court and completely control that. Distribute with pace, lines cross, she sets herself in the middle. And then almost looks the way that Andre Agassi used to play.”

In addition, the 54-year-old tennis legend’s style, which is characterized by explosive shot-making and accurate direction changes on all surfaces, is mirrored in Collins’ aggressive baseline game. Agassi also saw a rise in tennis while stepping towards the end of his career, just like Collins.
