Donna Vekic recently just caused one of the biggest upsets of the season after registering a win over Elena Rybakina. It does not come off as a surprise as the Croatian’s ranking does no justice to her skill level. Currently ranked 23, Vekic has shown some of the most impressive results in recent months which include wins over the world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka, and the Greek number 1 Maria Sakkari.

After her win over the Kazakh in Berlin, Vekic spoke about some of the takes from former legends. She was not in favor of a particular take from a former American slam champion.

At the start of the grass swing, Andy Roddick had dropped his prediction for Wimbledon. He considered Elena Rybakina as the best grass courter among the current lot. After beating the defending Wimbledon champion, Vekic said in the press conference, “I was on Twitter and I saw how Roddick said that she’s (Rybakina) the best player on grass right now. So I was like, let’s see, about that. Not saying that I’m the best player on grass, (I am) far from that. But I think nowadays, everyone can beat everyone, especially if you have a good day and if you believe in yourself.

Vekic did not just prove Roddick wrong with her result. She also debunked the new WTA Big 3  narratives by proving that everyone is beatable. The Croatian has registered wins over both Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina in the last 12 months and has given Iga Swiatek a tough fight at the same time.

They hold all four slams among themselves and dominated the last few WTA 1000s as well. However, Vekic believes that their dominance is not on an unbeatable level.
