Oscars Bans Venus and Serena Williams’ ‘King Richard’ Star Will Smith for Slapping Chris Rock

The 2022 Academy Award ceremony was a hit event but the most talked-about incident was Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock. The sudden and shocking action of the 53-year- old actor caused a huge buzz in the industry and everyone gave their opinion on it.

Will Smith did apologize for his actions, but many stars were demanding strict action against the Hollywood star to set an example.

Oscars Governors decide on a heavy suspension over Will Smith

Legendary film producer-director Steven Spielberg and Whoopi Goldberg Academy governors were due to meet to finalize the penalty. Though Will Smith publicly said that his actions were “uncontrolled” and apologized for it, the Academy Governing body had the final say in the case.

The King Richard actor already resigned from Hollywood’s top film body last week. So, the expected decision was crucial for him.Academy finally gave their decision to ban Will for 10 years from any event organized by them.

The Academy members released a letter to their members and informed them about the suspension. Calling Will’s behavior “unacceptable”, the decision was made known to all the related people.

As per the letter obtained by NBC News, the Academy wrote. “This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy,”

King Richard Actor in trouble

Will Smith just won his 1st ever “Best Actor” award for King Richard movie at the Oscars. He will now have to serve a suspension of 10 years. In a statement released by the Academy, “banning Smith was aimed at protecting performers and guests and “restoring trust in the Academy.”

Some stars demanded Will be stripped off the Oscars. Actor Whoopi Goldberg said that Smith would face “big consequences” but also assured that Will can still keep his award.

As per reports Sony Pictures and Netflix have already stopped future projects with Will Smith. Chris Rock, who was restrained from giving any comment on the event, has started his work as a stand-up comedian but remained silent over the Academy decision.

The movie’s executive producers Serena Williams and Venus Williams are yet to comment on the suspension.
