In a conversation about the tournament, the 15th-ranked tennis player talked about how, at first, she was astonished. She said, “You know, the first time I heard we will play against Serbia (in Group E), that was a shock for me. (I thought) no way! I haven’t had a chance to play against Novak Djokovic.”

Along with that, she also highlighted her biggest worry regarding how she has never played against the 24-time Grand Slam champion in the past. But at the same time, Zheng shared a happy feeling about getting this opportunity. She stated, “I’m super happy, honestly, to play against Serbia.”

As this is the second season of the tournament, it’s all about mixed teams coming together to play for their country. Apart from that, for the past few years, Zheng has been making headlines over her recent reunion with an old coach.

Zheng reunites with Coco Gauff’s ex-coach

This year, when the 19-year-old American tennis player Coco Gauff won her first Grand Slam title, she had Pere Riba, the Spanish tennis coach, by her side. However, after the WTA Finals, both of them parted ways, while the 35-year-old coach joined hands with the Chinese player, whom he had trained before. Not only that, a few days ago, Riba also talked about having a special relationship with the 21-year-old, and he decided to join hands again.

He said, “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Qinwen; when we stopped working after Roland Garros, we maintained our friendship; we’ve continued to have that contact, for me she’s like a little sister.” He previously mentored Zheng in 2021 but then split up earlier this year. Now that both of them are together, they are all set to drop the next season.
