The tennis and pickleball battle has still not found its end. While a lot of tennis players love the rising racquetball sport, others feel it’s not fair to have a similar game in the sporting world. A lot of tennis veterans, including Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, have shared their different takes on having pickleball around.

Coco Gauff, a 19-year-old American tennis player, recently made an astonishing statement about whether or not she enjoys the rapidly growing racquetball sport. Take a look at what the seventh-ranked tennis player has to say about how tennis differs from other sports.

Coco Gauff shares her take on pickleball

Recently, the 2023 Citi Open champion, who is doing wonders at the US Open after winning the second round, was asked about her take on pickleball during a recent interview with Vogue. In response, Gauff shared an interesting story explaining her point about how tennis players are more talented than pickleball players.

She said, “I actually have a friend who didn’t make it on the tennis tour, and went to pickleball, and she’s like the number one player in the world and she only played for like three months. I do think that tennis players are a little bit more talented… to start a sport and be at the top of the sport in less than five months? That’s…” 

Along with that, she also mentioned how it’s great to get up and move, but when it comes to choosing a racquetball sport, she prefers tennis over any other sport. In addition, after stating tennis first, she made it clear that she was never going to go for pickleball.

The 2022 French Open semi-finalist said, “I don’t know; the quality maybe is worse. That would never happen in tennis—but people are having fun. I’m not going to hate on the sport.” Nevertheless, along with the 19-year-old, Martina Navratilova is also one of those tennis players who believe that they will never be seen playing pickleball.

Last year, the 59-time Grand Slam champion took a sarcastic swipe at pickleball while making a serious admission on Twitter regarding the same. While she was sharing her take on the rising pickleball craze, she joked about how she would only play the sport if she couldn’t run at all.

In addition, she also made fun of the name of the sport, raising the question of who came up with the name. Nevertheless, just like the 19-year-old American tennis player, she also completed her sarcastic take by adding that it’s not that good of a sport, and as a tennis player herself, she would not prefer it.
