Serena Williams played her last match at the 2022 US Open. Fans at the Arthur Ashe Stadium got the roar of a lifetime after Serena Williams’ exemplary third round match.

The 2022 US Open has been a memorable one for fans for several reasons, but the most important one is obviously Serena Williams’ last professional match. In an interview, the legendary tennis brothers, Mike and Bob Bryan, expressed her fans’ wild love for the highly distinguished tennis player.

Fans crowd the last match of legend, Serena Williams

The hard court of Arthur Ashe Stadium witnessed moments of excitement and tears spanning throughout Serena’s magnificent career. In a historic moment, 23 years after her first Grand Slam victory in Flushing Meadows, Serena Williams played the last match of her career at the same venue.

In the third round of the US Open, Tomljanovic’s 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 win ended Serena’s 27-year-long career on the WTA tour.

In an interview, the celebrated doubles tennis players, Mike and Bob Bryan, spoke about the fans’ love for Serena they witnessed from the stands. The former world no.1, Mike Bryan said, “They set an attendance record, 29,000 in that place and they were going bonkers from the first point. The energy was like a World Series or a Super Bowl kind of atmosphere.”

He was fascinated to see celebrities and A-listers crowding the stands. He further added, “She’s got that fighting spirit. Like she said in her interview, she never gives up and we’ve seen that throughout her whole career.”

His brother, Bob Bryan, said, “She has got to be one of the greatest competitors to ever play the game. She hates to lose. Every time she steps out there she finds that extra gear.”

Despite coming into the US Open in poor form, losing in the initial rounds at both Cincinatti and Montreal, Serena looked at her best in Flushing Meadows. With her home crowd cheering her on, Serena fought until the last point. They were rightfully the audience that Serena Williams deserved.

Williams suggests she could return to tennis

Less than a few months after her farewell match at the US Open, the tennis legend shocked the world. The former world no.1 hinted that she could return to the WTA tour at the Australian Open.
