To reach the semifinal of the French Open, Carlos Alcaraz went through Stefanos Tsitsipas in what was a fairly easy victory. After being bested, Tsitsipas uploaded a congratulatory post for Alcaraz on Instagram. While many applauded the Greek player, Rennae Stubbs, the last coach of Serena Williams, was not happy about Tsitsipas. She criticized him heavily for being a hypocrite, as he had also insulted his opponent before their match.

Stubbs has been irked by Tsitsipas before as well. In December 2022, Tsitsipas relayed some of his thought about how feminism is a movement that targets men. Stubbs was greatly irritated by his statements and did not hold back as she fired away at him.

Serena Williams’ former coach lambasts Stefanos Tsitsipas

Prior to their match, Tsitsipas was disrespectful to his Spanish opponent, as per Rennae Stubbs. After he was demolished by Alcaraz, he put up a congratulatory post on his Instagram account with a poem in the caption. While a commendable gesture, Stubbs was not having any of it. On her sports show, Prime Video Sports Talk, Stubbs went on a tirade about the Greek player.

As per her, Tsitsipas writing a poem was quite cringe. She also stated that he started his shenanigans related to his match.

This is so cringe. First of all, do not say what you said in the post-conference to start this whole shenanigan of the situation, right? You totally disrespected your opponent when you went in there, basically, saying, ‘Eh, he’s not that good’.”

Stubbs continued her haranguing and stated that as he got flak for comments prior to the match, he could not make the situation better by writing a poem. She also advised him, along with Holger Rune, to put their phones away and stay offline during grand slams.

But, you got your butt, as Brad Gilbert usually says, taken to the butcher and then you went in and disrespected your opponent. And then you get some flak for it, then you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna write some poetry’, I mean, dude. Honestly, between you and Rune, just put your phones away. Just stop going on Twitter and stop going on social media.”

Tsitsipas has received significant criticism from several tennis figures in his life. He, along with Dane Holger Rune, has become another controversial figure in tennis, following Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic. Just like them, he continues to be chastised for his antics.

Do you agree with Stubbs’ criticism of the Greek star? Let us know in the comments.
