The German tennis player, Sabine Lisicki, is on her comeback journey. After a long time off, she will be seen competing in the Charleston Open. However, the 33-year-old tennis player is grateful to have the chance to return to the tennis circuit and accomplish her dream which was left unfulfilled due to an injury.
A cruciate ligament rupture on her knee forced the German tennis player, who handed Serena Williams, one of the biggest losses of her career, to retire in 2020. Nevertheless, she made a comeback to the tennis world in the spring of last year, stating that an injury could never put an end to her tennis career.

The 33-year-old tennis player made an amazing comeback at the Charleston Open after clearing both qualifiers for the tournament. In an interview with ABC News, the tennis player talked about how she never thought that, after suffering from injuries, she would be able to come through and get into the main draw of the tournament after so many years.

She said, “It means so much to be back in Charleston. After having an injury that (meant) I was never meant to play tennis again on a professional level, it’s sort of a dream come true to be back here,”

Even after defeating Williams at Wimbledon in 2013, the 33-year-old tennis player’s road was never simple. She kept experiencing setbacks in the form of injuries. However, the main obstacle in her professional tennis career was a knee injury that occurred in 2020. Despite this, she was aware that returning to the tennis circuit would be difficult and time-consuming due to her severely strapped left knee.

But after two years, she pulled off the seemingly impossible comeback and came back stronger on the tennis court. However, last year, when the tennis player made her return to the WTA tour, she credited tennis player Andy Murray and Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn, who helped with her comeback.

The German tennis star told Spox in an interview that she was inspired by Murray‘s never-ending drive to succeed. Especially in the face of a serious injury that had a drastic effect on his career.
