French tennis star Gael Monfils has been married to Elina Svitolina for more than two years now. While the two have been in a relationship for only 5 years, they have gone through various changes in their lives. Managing to strike a perfect balance between personal and professional lives does not come easy. In a recent interview during his tour in Washington for Citi Open, Monfils opened up about how his wife has evolved over the years.

The couple welcomed a baby girl late last year before Svitolina made a strong comeback to the tour. However, Monfils admitted how she has changed ever since they started dating.

During the interview with Racquet, Gael Monfils was asked about how his wife has now become a different person from how she was when they first met. The 36-year-old had a candid reply, accepting the change.

“It just starts that she’s the girl that you really like and you hang out with, and then she becomes your wife. So it’s just different, and now she’s a mother. And this—this makes it really different,” Monfils told Racquet. He further stated that Svitolina has grown up as well and she doesn’t put as much pressure on herself now that she has a family.

He added, “So of course it’s completely different from the girl I started dating.” His statement clearly shows that as more and more new milestones embrace the couple’s life, Elina continues to show growth and evolvement during every phase. And that is something that strengthens the foundation of their relationship as well.

In fact, the French star also went on to appreciate Elina’s decision to become a mother, too.

Further, in the interview, Monfils talked about how having a child is not an easy decision for a woman. It is so because the woman has to put her career on hold for some time. He said that when the two of them decided to have a child, Elina showed strength and agreed to take a pause from tennis.

He said that Elina’s decision to become a mother made him go ‘wow’ because she was on the top of her game at the time and still was ready to leave tennis to give everything to her family and plan a baby.
