Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci was recently in an interview where he was recapping everything that went down at the Australian Open 2024, the first grand slam of the new year’s tournament season. He talked about all the players but one thing that stood out for all the tennis fans was his verdict about Coco Gauff.

Even though Gauff lost in the semifinals at the Grand Slam tournament, he was still very appreciative of her and even went ahead and compared her with one of the greatest names in the history of tennis, that is, Roger Federer.

One of the few teenagers to ever win a grand slam, Coco Gauff unfortunately lost at the semifinals of the Australian Open 2024. Talking in the same context, Rick Macci shared the things he likes about the young American and also compared her to Roger Federer.

He said, “She is not going anywhere. We have talked about this before. She is a teenager. One of the best backhands on the tour. But I actually like her backbone better than her backhand. I love her motto. No days off. Coco’s only gonna get better. And what I love about her, is she has the mindset of Roger Federer.”

Comparing a 1-time grand slam winner to a 20-time major winner is certainly a big deal but we are hopeful the comparison will work out given the start Gauff has had in her professional career. Besides that, Rick Macci also shared previously how Gauff has the ability to win double-digit grand slams.

Rick Macci believes Coco Gauff will win double-digit grand slams

Before this interview, Rick Macci posted about the US Open 2023 champion on his official Twitter account as well. He posted, “Was asked how many Grand Slams @CocoGauff can win. Because I love her BACKBONE as much as her BACKHAND, the Delray Dart could order double digits off the menu.”
