Venus Williams’ former hitting partner made a surprising revelation about his previous role
The 38-year-old coach was recently featured in the ‘Talking Tennis Southern Side’ podcast show alongside the USTA Director, Martin Blackman. Meanwhile, Jermaine Jenkins reminisced about the period when one of his friends informed him about the 7 singles Grand Slam champion who was looking for a hitting partner.
Later, the American tennis coach revealed he then sent a blind text to Venus Williams when she was in New York. He said, “I just literally just hit the blind text to Venus and said, Hey, look, I’m here in New York. You know, if I could be of any service to you, please let me know.” And I mean, by the grace of God, she, she texts me back, you know, actually, her coach, David Witt at the time, texted me back and said, hey, you know, “Venus told me that, you know, you’re the hitter this week”. And he didn’t sound excited about it, because he already had a hitter booked.”
It was Venus’ former coach, David Witt who informed Jenkins that she had appointed him as her hitting partner. He added, “And so, you know, he’s like, “Hey, Venus said that you know, that you’re the hitter this week, we’re gonna be on court, you know, such and such, we’ll see you there.” And, it was kind of a dream come true.”
In doing so, she fulfilled the “dream” of the tennis coach as it also turned out to be a major turning in his journey.
