The Indian Wells 2022 has been a successful tournament in so many ways. Both men and women played their hearts out to produce some incredible tennis over the last two weeks. With Miami Open just around the corner, Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas  had finished the event with some fun questions and answers.

The former German star played ‘Who is the GOAT?’ hosted by ‘We are Tennis’. Interestingly, he mentioned Serena Williams in a rather different category than one would have expected.

Tommy Haas thinks Serena Williams is the Goat of racquet abuse

Speaking about who’s the GOAT of racquet abuse, he said, “Goran Ivanisevic, I think was definitely up there. Marat Safin, I mean, legendary with what he used to do with a racquet. But the ladies, you know, Serena has done some great things on the court when she gets mad.”

Haas was further asked about who has the greatest one-handed backhand. The German player took Grigor Dimitrov and Roger Federer’s names. In terms of on-court speed, he picked Gael Monfils, Alex De Minaur, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal. Also, he wanted them to race for a 50m sprint to see who’s the fastest.

Apart from this, he also picked Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Bublik as the GOAT of tweeners. 

Serena’s famous racquet smashing moment in 2018

In the past, Serena had plenty of instances where she lost her cool and smashed her racquets on the court. During the 2018 US Open final match against Naomi Osaka, Serena had a major meltdown.

She smashed her racquet after failing to return a ball. As a result, she got a code violation and received a point penalty. Later, she received a game penalty for verbally abusing the chair umpire, Carlos Ramos.

Incidentally, Serena was vying for her 24th Grand Slam title in that match which she lost eventually. She got a few more opportunities to touch the record but was unsuccessful. Currently, she is recovering from an injury as she missed the Australian Open this year. Fans await the return of Serena Williams and wants her to clinch the elusive 24th major title.
