But along with the polished player, her coach has also grabbed a lot of attention, as Mark Gellard has an old connection with the WTA, especially with Venus Williams and Martina Hingis.

Magda Linette’s tennis journey gains strength with a seasoned British coach renowned for his wealth of experience. Gellard, with over 20 years of coaching, has significantly shaped the careers of numerous players. The partnership of Mark Gellard and Magda Linette started in 2018 at an academy in Guangzhou, China, under the direction of Alan Ma. However, several issues in the coaching atmosphere caused them to split up at the end of 2020. They rejoined for the 2022 season, moving their training base to Delray Beach, Florida, despite their brief separation.

Gellard started his professional journey in 2017 when he joined hands with Bethanie Mattek-Sand. During that time, she was able to achieve two consecutive semi-final victories and make her best-ever Grand Slam appearance by reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon. Before becoming a tennis coach, he was a tennis player himself. Before traveling to the United States, he first refined his talents at the London Tennis Academy.

In addition, his favorite tennis player is none other than Pete Sampras, who literally rocked the whole generation with his racket. Not only that, he has also worked with a lot of popular tennis players, such as the seven-time Grand Slam champion or even Martina Hingis, as a hitting partner and coach. While he has been a part of the 43-year-old American tennis legend’s career, there was a time when he talked about traveling on tours with Hingis.

Mark Gellard’s profound experience working with Hingis 

Back in 2017, in an interview, he talked about how one of the best tennis players he has worked with was none other than the former Swiss tennis player. He stated, “I worked with her the week before Wimbledon and then throughout the tournament, at which time she asked me to accompany her on the U. S. Open series tour leading up to the U. S. Open.” 

Not only that, he also explained how it was the opportunity that literally became the turning point of his career, as it opened a lot of doors for him to build new connections and meet new people. As soon as he finished his college tennis career, he wanted to connect with the professional world, so he volunteered himself as a hitting partner and not only found Hingis but also played with one of the legendary Williams sisters.
