Although her run in Cincinnati ended in the second round, she will next be seen competing in an indoor hard-court tournament. But as the tournament schedule for her next match is out, there has been a lot of commotion around her match.

Well, the news about the former world number one tennis player facing Mirra Andreeva is now public. Recently, tennis fans were left in awe over the scheduling of matches that pitted one of the sport’s youngest talents against an active tennis veteran.

Tennis fans confused over Venus Williams Cleveland Open scheduling 

The 43-year-old American tennis star is all set to step up to play another hard-court tournament before the US Open. Well, for the Tennis in the Land tournament’s first round, the seven-time Grand Slam champion will face the Russian teenage sensation, Andreeva. Hearing this out, the sudden setup literally left them in awe.

While a tennis commentator, José Morgado, shared the same news on Twitter, he took the biggest question into consideration. Nevertheless, he wrote, “Wow. 16yo Mirra Andreeva vs. 43yo Venus Williams next week in Cleveland. First round.”

Following him, tennis fans flooded the comment section, with their reactions over finding out such a cute pairing for the match. A fan counted out the age difference between both of the tennis players. He wrote, “This is utterly insane, 27-year age gap.”

While some fans looked into the age gap of 27 years, they brought Nick Kyrgios into the conversation and mocked the pair. A fan wrote, “That’s a whole Nick Kyrgios lifetime between them.”

On the other hand, a fan made fun of the seven-time Grand Slam champion’s age, bringing in a family angle. “She could already be her granddaughter,” he added.

Moreover, a lot of fans were turned off by how something like this could ever happen. One of them wrote, “This is actually nuts.”

While the other one drew back the same question again for more clarity. Further, he wrote, “Which brings up the obvious question: What is the biggest age gap between players in a high-level tournament? This has got to be close.”

Nonetheless, some fans also pointed out how the draws were not scheduled in the right way. “We aren’t even surprised that draws are rigged anymore,” the fan mentioned.

However, this is not the first time that one of the eldest and the youngest tennis players are going against each other.

In the same tweet, an avid tennis fan recalled the time when the Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka faced Kimiko Date. And added, “reminiscent of a 17 yo naomi osaka playing 44 yo Kimiko date – and Kimiko won!” 

Although the 1994 Australian Open semi-finalist won the match, the moment of facing the 17-year-old was something that was never seen in the tennis world before. But now that Venus Williams is getting ready to face the 16-year-old Russian sensation, it will definitely be a new experience in tennis history.
