A brand new year knocks at the door, and players are busy revisiting their favorite memories from 2023. At the wrap of the 2023 ATP Tour, Gael Monfils sat down for an interview with the media and he was asked about his best moment of the year. And to our surprise, it was not a personal achievement or professional growth moment for him that he loved the most in 2023.
It was in fact related to his wife Elina Svitolina. Monfils went on to describe a moment in time that was fully focused on her, and that very moment became his favorite. Let’s take a look at what it was!

Gael Monfils shares how his wife Elina Svitolina’s smile was the best memory for him from 2023
In a recent interview, Gael Monfils was asked about the one memory he will take away with him forever from the year 2023. Replying to this, he shared that the best moment he had from this year was about the smile his wife had because of her amazing run in 2023.

He shared, “Let’s say I will pick the smile of my wife when she won her first tournament back when she achieved a great run in Paris and of course the semifinal in Wimbledon. I would pick that. When she came back home, with our daughter to see her, how happy she was, it was amazing.”
It is truly amazing to have a partner like Gael Monfils who would make his wife’s happiest moment his own without missing a beat or having any second thoughts. This shows the kind of bond the two of them share. However, for him, this year’s turnout was not as impressive as his wife’s, and he opened up about a regret he may have had.

Monfils talks about his 2023 journey and the only regret he has for now
In another interview, Gael Monfils shared how he feels it is crazy to be still playing even when he is 37 now and has already given 20 years to the sport. Further, he added how now he feels that he can enjoy tennis more as he has nothing left to prove. This was not the case earlier for him. He shared that he feels very lucky and the only regret he has is that he feels he could have enjoyed tennis even more.

Monfils also added that he would love to qualify for the upcoming Olympics and play there as well. He received a great response in Paris and he would like to be able to continue the same at the Olympics as well. Will he get to enjoy more and more of tennis in 2024?
