Andre Agassi’s pro-trip for a content marriage

Who knows better about a joyful union than a man who has been married for more than two decades? While Andre Agassi has admitted before that he doesn’t know the secret to a successful relationship, he does believe knowing oneself before committing to another person helps. Serving as an inspiration to couples in and around the tennis world, Agassi told the Wall Street Journal, “The first is to know yourself. You can’t come to a relationship needing the other to feel complete, or else you’re fighting multiple battles.”

When the 8-time Grand Slam champion won his first Wimbledon title in 1992, he shared the reason for his happiness, and it was not his first Grand Slam victory. It was his connection with his ex-girlfriend, Wendi Stewart, that grew stronger during that time. From that time on, he also shared a thought of his regarding how Graf was just a “fantasy” for him and nothing else.

He wrote, “I’ve accepted that I’m not meant to be with Steffi. It was a nice fantasy while it lasted, but I’ve devoted myself to Wendi, and vice versa.” Rather than getting his heart broken, he chose to divert it by getting devoted to Wendi at that time. But destiny had its own plan, and he ended up not only loving but even marrying her and finding his happily ever after.
