American teenager Coco Gauff will take on Bulgarian veteran player Tsvetana Pironkova in the opening round match at the WTA Charleston Open 2021. It promises to be an interesting battle since it involves players belonging to two completely different generations. The match is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Coco Gauff has continued to display a willingness to compete against the best players in the game. Prior to the Australian Open, she featured at the WTA Abu Dhabi Open, followed by the WTA Melbourne Open. However, after winning her opening round match, she exited in the next round in both events.

The Bulgarian player has played a fair amount of tennis this season. Both players competed at the Miami Open last week. After emerging victorious in their first-round matches, they fell short in the following matches. It was the first tournament in the teenager’s career in which she was a seeded player.

Gauff and Pironkova also played the first Grand Slam of the season. The teenager won her first-round match but faltered in the next match against Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina. On the other hand, the 33-year-old Pironkova lost in the opening round to Chinese Taipei athlete Su-Wei Hsieh in straight sets.

The WTA Charleston Open 2021 opening round will be the first time the two players will face each other. It could not be a better place and time for the two to compete against each other. It will be an interesting contest since both players will not know what to expect from a tactical point of view.

The clash promises to be an exciting contest. On one side, Coco is a fairly inexperienced player compared to her opponent, whereas Tsvetana has been on Tour for over a decade. After reaching the US Open quarterfinal last season, the Bulgarian player has not managed to attain similar results in the current season.

Gauff, on the other side, has fared well in doubles but not managed to cause upsets against the big names in singles. In recent years, the 17-year-old player has troubled top players from time to time.
