As the fourth year of the WTA Elite Trophy kicks-off, the ladies line up. They would defend for the title and the total prize money is US$2.35 million. The 21-year-old, Daria Kasatkina lost to the American woman, Madison Keys in straight sets 2-6, 4-6 in a match lasting for 70 minutes. Post her loss, she criticised the tournament officials for the haphazard draw which she has got. After her victory over Wang Qiang in the Round Robin tie at 10 pm on Tuesday, Kasatkina was exhausted.

Also, she addressed her disappointed during the post-match conference. “Yeah. I mean if they want me to pull out of the tournament then they are doing a good job because in less than 24 hours I’ve played two matches. “The girls (Keys and Wang) are not playing tomorrow, they are playing on Friday, and I was supposed to play two matches in less than 24 hours”, Kasatkina said. “So there’s nothing I can say, nothing I can do. I was fighting, I mean I did everything I could. I gave more than 100 per cent of my abilities, so this is the professional sport.”Keys too had some words to say after the match, adding, “I think I had a really good start today, and that definitely helped me. Overall, I think I just played really solid and went out and did what I needed to do.”

On the other courts, the Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza survived a match against the Number 2 seed Anastasija Sevastova. She reached the semifinals of the WTA Elite Trophy. Also, she saved three match points in the action-action-packed 6-7(4), 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory over Sevastova.  “These matches are the ones that really count. It’s long, it’s difficult, you have match points against you, you don’t lose your courage, you don’t lose your enthusiasm. And it worked today,” Muguruza said on court after the match.
