Bektas started her 2024 season with a disappointing loss in the first round of the ASB Classics. She would find a similar fate in the Australian Open as she was ousted by Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round. Bektas would once again lose in the first round of the Hua Hin Championships, as she got injured during the opening round.

She failed to qualify in the Indian Wells Masters and found herself moving ahead in the LTP Charleston Pro Tennis championship but lost in round 2. In the Miami Open, she beat Maneiro in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, and will now face Townsend.

Townsend and Bektas met only once on the WTA Tour. Their first match also took place in a qualifying round as the two exchanged blows in the 2022 San Jose qualifying round 2. Townsend would manage to achieve an overwhelming victory over Bektas as the clash ended 6-3, 6-2. Townsend managed to move into the main draw with no issues.

Prediction: Townsend to take victory

As both players have not had a much different stint in the last few months, they are not too far apart from each other. However, the player from Illinois has performed better and has a much higher chance of moving to the main draw of the Miami Open.
