Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, is back with yet another novel idea. The high-profile businessman has been outspoken about green initiatives for a long time. Now, the Reddit co-founder retweeted a prominent New York-based urbanist and city developer, reflecting his vision for America’s cities.

Always keeping an eye out for the betterment of American lives and policy initiatives, Alexis Ohanian’s enthusiastic urging comes as no surprise. The renowned businessman shared the development of a profitable Californian planning model that transformed the city. The particular boulevard in question is now a picture of Eden and is virtually unrecognizable by most!

Real estate developer Coby Lefkowitz recently tweeted two pictures of a major boulevard in Lancaster, California. There, the side-by-side placement was a before and after comparison.

What caught Alexis Ohanian’s attention was the drastic difference. The left image was a barren gray street. But the right showed a soothing tree-laced road. Ohanian showed his support, saying: “America : copy and paste this idea”.

In 2010, the City of Lancaster initially revamped the Boulevard on a $11.5M ground-breaking project. As a result, it has attracted major economic investments and the downtown area has been immensely profitable.

The transformation of the award-winning arterial linkage appealed to Ohanian. In his own projects, he balances advocacy for saving the earth with the need for development through the 776 Foundation. But something more personal lies at the heart of his pioneering work.

Alexis Ohanian regularly appreciates meaningful causes and campaigns. But of late, he has been focusing on combating the effects of climate change. Last year, as part of a $20 million pledge, Ohanian reported that his foundation’s fellowship program had sponsored its first cohort of Climate Fellows with $100K each.

But for dedicated family man Alexis Ohanian, his five-year-old daughter comes before all else. Olympia, who he shares with Serena Williams, drives his purpose: “I’d be like, ‘Remember, papa was the one to believe in that thing that saved our planet’… I want people to come up to Olympia talking about how cool her dad is just as much as people come up to her and say how cool her mom is.”

But while Alexis Ohanian openly admits that he might never live up to the colossal stature of Serena Williams, the well-meaning tech entrepreneur certainly comes close. What do you think? Share your views in the comments below!
