Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Reflects Upon His Unconventional Naming Journey in a Video Involving Drake, Liam Neeson, Adele, and Others

Will Alexis Ohanian, the husband of the legendary Serena Williams, ever stop surprising his followers with little tidbits about him and the family? Probably not. Recently, the very active internet entrepreneur and Reddit cofounder took to his Twitter handle to talk about an interesting fact about himself. Alexis posted the history behind his name via a quote tweet. The original post talks about different pop-culture idols and how they influenced baby naming in America.

Although Alexis has mentioned the reference to his name in his book “Without Their Permission”, not many fans know about it. He is the namesake of a famous boxer who, unfortunately, is no more. The co-owner Angel City FC surely does justice to the name as he has fought through the challenges in his life and established himself as one of the giants in the tech industry.

The unconventional story behind Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian’s moniker

Alexis Ohanian’s father, Chris Ohanian, was a fan of the boxing legend Alexis Arguello. Alexis says that his father named him after Arguello. Previously, in an interview, Alexis had also revealed that his father wanted him to become a boxer in life, following in the footsteps of his namesake.

Carrying the hype, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis replied to the post by George Takei, our very own Hikaru Sulu. Takei posted a video of famous pop culture influences on baby names in America. On the top of the video is a question to his followers. It asks them about the famous personality they share names with.

Some of the popular names featuring in the video  involves Drake, Liam Neeson, Chris Hemsworth, Adele, etc.

To this, Alexis proudly states how his name was an inspiration from the ruthless boxer, Alexis Arguello.

Alexis Arguello is a three-time world boxing champion from Nicaragua. He is popular for his powerful punches and his rivalry with another boxing legend, Aaron Pryor. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 57.

Living with the name wasn’t always easy

Alexis Ohanian has often spoken about his name and his father’s love for boxing in various interviews. However, in his book “Without Their Permission”, Alexis talks about how hard it was for him to carry his name, particularly during his childhood. He said, “having a name that’s usually given to girls” was not a great experience for him.

To add to that, he was the tallest in his class and overweight most of the time. However, looking at the man now, one would hardly guess he had any such problems. If anything, he proves to have the inspiring dexterity of the man he was named after.
