Former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova mentioned in one of her interviews earlier this year that she wants Ons Jabeur to win her maiden grand slam title soon. Sharapova believes that Jabeur deserves it because of her hard work in rising through the ranks on the WTA Tour. After making such a wish, Maria Sharapova and Ons Jabeur were finally able to cross paths with one another at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Ons Jabeur finally meets her biggest supporter Maria Sharapova

In one of her interviews, Maria Sharapova shared how she was rooting for Ons Jabeur to win her first-ever grand slam soon. She also said that she feels the Tunisian has the ability to transcend the sport into a lot of areas, including culture, fashion, and entertainment.

After having sung the praises about her, they finally met at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which concluded the 2022-2023 F1 season at the Yas Marina Circuit. The two were quite excited and elated to see one another, as they immediately went for a hug.

Even though the wish Sharapova has for Jabeur has not come true yet, the fans of the Tunisian star will hope she will be able to break the cycle of making it to the finals and not winning.

Ons Jabeur and her continued pursuit of a grand slam title

The first time Jabeur made it to the finals was at Wimbledon in 2022. She was up against Elena Rybakina, who beat her in three sets to win her first Grand Slam title. In the same season, she made it to the finals of the US Open. However, playing against Iga Swiatek in the Pole’s record-breaking 2022 season proved to be too much for Jabeur, as she lost in straight sets.

The last chance that she got to make it to the finals was at the Wimbledon 2023 where she was up against Marketa Vondrousova. However, even then she lost in straight sets and could not fulfill her dream of winning her first-ever grand slam title. Do you think 2024 will spruce things up for Ons Jabeur?
