Chris Evert’s exploits on the tennis court are the stuff of legend. During the 1970s and 1980s, Chris Evert cemented her reputation as the most dominant women’s tennis player. However, her personal life had several ups and downs as well. Evert married alpine ski racer Andy Mill in 1988, but cracks in the marriage surfaced when Evert fell in love with Australian golfer Greg Norman.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Norman and Evert went back in time and dissected what happened. The interview allowed the couple to reflect on what made Evert leave Mill for Norman.

Norman also added to the discussion by saying that it was the world’s misconception to think that the “whole thing happened so fast.” He ended by saying, “maybe it didn’t happen so fast.”

The aftermath of Evert leaving Mill for Norman

Evert’s marriage with Mill came to an end in 2006 as the couple cited irreconcilable differences. While the divorce allowed Evert to be with Norman, the man she fell in love with, it came at a significant cost.

For starters, she had to part with several vehicles, a $4 million Aspen house, and a whopping $7 million worth of cash and securities. Mill was the recipient of these assets, and he bid farewell to his former wife and her partner by wishing them a happy life.

In 2008, Evert and Norman tied the knot in the island country of Bahamas. However, unfortunately for the couple, the marriage didn’t last long. In October 2009, they announced their separation and a couple of months later, they divorced.

Norman was Evert’s third husband, and since the couple’s divorce, she hasn’t married again. For Norman though, moving on proved to be easier as a year after his divorce from Evert, he married Kirsten Kutner, an interior designer.
