Talking about this incident, Zina recalls telling Serena and Venus, “Tiger Woods is gonna make all that money but this is gonna put you guys right in there.” Serena too reminisces about this fond memory of her first Olympic gold medal with her sister.

At the time, Tiger Woods had made a total of $9,578,889 in the 2000 season alone, which roughly would be around $35,000,000 in the present. Serena and Venus, however, were just starting out their careers in pro tennis and sure enough this Olympic gold medal would go on to become a landmark in the history of tennis.
Their victory at the Sydney Olympics was a historic moment, as Venus and Serena became the first African-American women to win a gold medal in tennis at the Olympics.
